After the death of his mother, Āminah, Muhammad (ﷺ) was looked after by his compassionate grandfather, 'Abdul-Muttalib. 'Abdul-Muttalib was more passionate with his grandson than with his own children.
When Muhammad (ﷺ) was eight years, two months and ten days old, his grandfather passed away in Makkah. The charge of the Prophet (ﷺ) was then passed on to his uncle, Abū Tālib, who was the brother of the Prophet's father. Abū Tālib singled out the boy with great respect and high esteem, and preferred him to his own children. He remained cherishing his nephew and extending all possible protection and support to him for forty years.
