Chapter 1: Alpha

Alpha: The first or most important thing. The leader in a wolf pack. The brightest star in a constellation.

Sabrina's POV

Hi. My name is Sabrina Bryan.

This is the story of a town who's history changed thanks to two girls and their friends.

One of those girls is me, and what I'm about to tell you is absolutely true. Everything that has happened in the town of Lancaster started with a murder mystery.

You see, a 15 year-old kid was found dead in an empty cabin by Crocodile River and Forest Falls. And everybody at school was a suspect. So here is that story, and how it changed Lancaster forever.

1 and a half years ago

Day 1: April 3

I'm walking down the halls of my precious kingdom, aka Lancaster High. I am the Queen Bee of this place, although I'm not the cliche mean girl everybody expects. No, the way I earned my place here was for my excellent pranks and my love for breaking the rules. Still, I am wild and I am wicked. I am far from perfect, even if everyone believes I am. I put my headphones on and my favorite song started playing.

I just noticed that a cluster of people are talking to someone at the end of the hallway as I'm listening to Tove Lo's Moments. I'm getting closer to the cluster of people and when they see me they move aside to let me see whatever it is they're doing. And then I notice him.

Sheriff Riley.

Sheriff Riley, also known as Tom Riley, is my best friend Thomas Riley's dad. I kind of see him on a regular basis because I get in lots of trouble, so it doesn't surprise me to see him. Maybe he has found out about my latest prank.

"Tom," I say. He looks at me.

"Sabrina, I don't know how many times I have to tell you this, but don't call me Tom," he says.

"You call me Sabrina," I point out. Again, he glares at me.

"Anyway, it doesn't matter. I was just asking when was the last time people saw Nolan Harris."

"What for? Is he missing?"

"No, Sabrina," the sheriff says. " He's dead."

Nolan Harris is dead? And by the looks of it, it was either suicide or murder. But Nolan was popular. He was a jock on the football team after all. So if isn't suicide, who would want Nolan dead?

"When was the last time time you saw him, Bryan?" he asks me. I think about it and realize it was only last Friday at my other best friend Allison Richard's party. And that is what I tell the sheriff.

"Thanks, Sabrina. Your information will be useful in the case," he says. And with that, he's gone.

The crowd around me is still there. "Shoo, people. What you looking at?" I say. They all immediately scramble to find another activity. Except for one person. My beautiful ex best friend, Maya Clarke.
