Edward put the last folded pair of socks into his trunk and closed it. "Well," he said to his cat, "I've given the Dursleys enough time, don't you think? They'll probably say 'no.'"
Shadow gave a mew of contentment from Edward's bed.
"Guess I'll be spending the summer at the Weasleys," Edward continued, sitting down on his trunk.
At that moment, a familiar, snowy-white owl flew into Edward's room. Harry's owl, Hedwig, dropped a letter on the bed and then perched on his dresser, shaking her wet wings out.
Shadow had given a great yowl of alarm when the owl had flown in, and he darted under the bed, hissing.
"Hello, Hedwig," Edward chuckled, picking up the letter. It was from his brother.
Hi, Ed!
Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia say you can come, but I think they were just scared you would hex them if they didn't. Can Mr. Lupin drop you off tomorrow at seven pm?That's when they said you could come over. I'm not sure how long they'll let you stay, but I'm sure they'll let me send Hedwig to Mr. Lupin when they've had enough.
Harry
P.S. That was smart of you to send your request by Muggle mail. And I liked your letter; it made me laugh. Thanks.
Edward smirked. He'd sent the Dursleys a letter by Muggle mail a week earlier, hinting at his powers.
Harry's told me so much about you! It would please me to meet my relatives, especially my cousin, Dudders -- excuse me, Dudley.
Edward went over to the door, opened it, and yelled, "Harry sent a reply with Hedwig! I've been invited to the Dursley's!"
"Good!" Remus replied. "Are you packed?"
"Yes! I'm going to send a reply back with Hedwig! And we're expected tomorrow after dinner, around seven!"
"All right!"
Edward closed the door, sat down at his desk, and began writing....

On July 30th, Remus Apparated Edward, Shadow, and his trunk to a dark alley near Harry's house, and together they walked to Number 4, Privit Drive. They got a few odd looks, and Edward smiled crookedly back at the staring Muggles, making Remus chuckle.
When they arrived at Harry's house, Remus knocked. Edward checked his watch and smirked; it was exactly seven. The Dursleys would be even more frightened of wizards.
The door opened, and Edward's fat, purple-faced uncle opened the door. He paled when he saw Edward, and looked even more frightened at Remus' gaunt face.
"Hello, Uncle Vernon!" Edward said brightly.
"Ed!" Harry appeared behind Vernon, beaming. "Hi, Mr. Lupin," he added. "Uncle Vernon, this is Edward's foster father, Remus Lupin."
"Pleasure to meet you," said Remus warmly to Vernon. "I'll be picking Edward up a week before September the first, unless you have other plans."
"I'll write you if they, er, need a break," said Harry, grinning at Edward. Edward smirked.
"Good to see you again, Harry," Remus said with an amused smile. "Be good for your hosts, Edward."
"Of course," Edward said innocently. "See you at the end of August."
Remus nodded and walked back down the street.
"Let me help you get your stuff in," said Harry, taking the handle of Edward's trunk. Edward took Shadow off of the luggage.
