"Jane? Jane!"
The Egyptian woman jumped, snapping back into reality. She looked at the man who shouted at her, a shocked expression on her face.
"Jane, this is the third time you've fallen asleep on the job," the man sighed, "have you been getting enough sleep?"
"Yes, of course," she said as she fixed her glasses, "I've gotten plenty of sleep."
"If you can't stay awake while working, you may harm yourself! These chemicals aren't children's toys," the man said as he gestured to the many bottles of multicolored liquids. Jane sighed and nodded, standing up and stretching. It'd been getting harder and harder to stay awake these days, seeing as she worked late at night. She always came in to work during the morning, though.
Just to fill you in,
Jane Williamson is an Egyptian woman, standing at 5"6 feet. She's a wonderful scientist, and she's the one of the best in her class. Yet, even with her smarts, she's not outgoing in the slightest. She shuts out her other classmates, and uses her work as an excuse to stay inside her home. She's a loner, and believes machines are her only friends.
Anyways, back to the story.
Jane packed up her things, her eyelids getting heavier with each passing minutes. She couldn't wait to get home and sleep. She trudged towards the exit of the lab, yawning every 10 seconds. Before she grabbed the doorknob, a blunt object collided with her skull, and her vision went blurry. Her body went limp, and fell. There was no way she could stay awake now. She slowly closed her eyes, and drifted off.
When she awoke, she was in a dark chamber. Her dark brown eyes opened, and she frantically began to look around. She caught sight of a group of shadows staring at her; her fellow classmates. They were in a safety room.
"Hello, Jane," one spoke up, "due to unfortunate circumstances, you won't be leaving this room."
Jane's eyes widened, "What the hell?! Let me out of here at once!"
"Tsk tsk, no manners, as always," the shadow said, moving to a control panel, "You're one of the smartest people in our class, so you probably know about our work in Cryokinesis."
Jane nodded, "Yes, of course," she said before gulping, "why do you ask?"
The shadow chuckled, pulling a lever. The temperature began to drop quickly, filling the room with fog. Jane tried to move, but her hands were restrained. "Why?!" she shouted at them.
"I know, I know. This sounds horrible, doesn't it? Well, we decided that you aren't worth it. You're a loner. You're reserved, cold. Everyone is tired of you and your foolish behavior, Jane." the student said with a sigh. Jane began to shiver, not just from the cold. Her breath formed in front of her, getting thicker by the second. This continued on before she cold feel frost forming along her hands.
"Please! Please, I'll do anything!" she shouted, continuing to struggle. The shadows answered her pleas by increasing the amount of cold being emitted into the room. She was sure she was going to die now. Then, something miraculous happened.
"Darrick, there's been a malfunction. The machine is unstable, we need to shut it down."
Darrick, the middle shadow turned to look at the woman, "Are you insane? We're almost done! Keep it running."
The woman gulped, but did as she was told. The machine Jane was strapped to began to shake, sending purple sparks flying. Jane was now nearly unconscious.
"Darrick, John, we need to leave!" the woman yelled. The two men looked at Jane before both deciding it was time to go. The quickly ran out of the chamber, racing towards the main building.
"Martha, hurry!" John yelled, running back and grabbing her hand. They were about half way there when the chamber exploded.
They didn't even look back. They simply climbed into Darrick's car and drove away. Eventually, a policeman arrived.
"Those pesky scientists. Always up to something." He groaned, walking up to the destroyed building. He kicked a piece of rubble with his foot, revealing a hand.
"Holy-!" He shouted, stepping back and drawing his handgun. The figure crawled its way out of the bricks, revealing itself to be Jane.
"Jane? Jane Williamson? Is that really you?" He asked in disbelief, lowering his gun. He walked forward, examining her. Jane's hand slowly outstretched itself toward the policeman.
"Take it easy, Miss Williamson. Let's get you to the hospital, they'll look you over." He said as he gently took a hold of her forearm. A sudden flash of purple light exited her arm, thrusting itself in front of her. As it flew, it hardened. The officer was forced backwards, covered in the energy. He opened his eyes slowly, taking in the scene. He was stuck in a spiky ice block with no way of exiting. The ice was firm, and had a purple aura swirling around inside of it.
"What the.. What the hell are you?!" He shouted at her, causing Jane to stumble backwards. She looked down at her hands, which had the same purple aura swirling around them. She shuddered, turning around and running. To where? She didn't know.
