Chapter 13:
While You Were Sleeping

It was different. The transition always was.

From the kind of brown that glistens in the sunlight to an unknown red; the sign of a monster. Everything else was as normal as it used to be. Pale skin, dark hair, and wandering eyes.

She could see the details in everyone's face, the very cells that make up of their bodies. She could see the contact wires in the light bulbs overhead, transfering the electricty as quickly as possible. She could even see the specks of dust in the air. They danced like snowflakes, slow and steady, gliding in the air until they were no more.

The energy felt different in death.

Then she decided to focus on other things. Edward stood just beside Hunter gleefully. In her eyes, the looked like angels, shimmering in the hue of the room and smiling like nothing was wrong. Then her own smile showed.

She had been given another chance at life.

Hunter was the first to move and she approached Bella slowly, "Hey you." She whispered. Bella took a step forward. A movement that was supposed to be normal, was transformed into a flash of speed.

When she was suddenly in her best friend's arms, they gasped. A newborn's abilities were uncanny but they forgot how unexpected it was. "Hey." Bella beamed just before pulling the hybrid into a bone crushing hug.

Hunter's eyes widened and she grunted. "Oh- god. Bella. Hurting." Bella pulled away as fast as lightning, a frown appearing just as fast.

"Now it's her turn not to break us." Edward chuckled. Bella's attention quickly shifted over to Edward. She looked at him as if this is what she's been waiting for.

Bella thought that she had deemed Edward perfect before, but now he was more than that. She could see every aspect of his face, his body, and it turned everything she thought before void.

Hunter's smile dimmed and panic filled her all over again. Bella had to know about her and Edward, they couldn't wait another day.

She looked over to Edward knowingly yet he didn't seem to meet her gaze. His own eyes fixated on Bella's as if she was the only girl in the world. As if she didn't exist.

Dull and aching pain spread across Hunter's chest.

"I'll leave you two alone." Hunter announced angrily. Bella sent her a questioning gaze and Edward finally snapped from his daze. She couldn't believe he would lie to her face.

And suddenly, she remembered why she hated him at all. "Don't go." Bella pleaded, changing her course from Edward to her. Hunter stayed still with an animosity that was deafening.

Edward was now fully aware of the situation. He had been so focused on Bella being alive again, he didn't even realize the rest of the world still spun. But it did, and he remembered everything he's said before.
