»this is my idea of fun, playing video games«

~

"Dude, move," hissed the eleven year old girl who had just gotten a bob cut and was now stood in an arcade whilst her mother looked at army recruitment leaflets.

"No," the stranger repeated, not moving despite the repetitive methods the young Dorothy had been using.

"Please!" The slightly smaller girl whined, stamping her foot on the floor. "I've been waiting for hours and my mom will be taking me home soon."

"Pfft, take your tantrum somewhere else."

Dorothy clenched her fists and feet, then unclenched them. She repeated these actions for a whole minutes, mustering up the courage to utter these next few words: "Bitch, move." Then the girl went to push the stranger, knocking the blonde to the floor.

The girl, with her purple worn converse and black skater dress with cats on it, gaped at Dorothy--she was completely and utterly stunned by what she had just done.

If she had known Dorothy and if she was good friends with her, the girl would've been proud for some bizarre reason. Possibly because she reminded her of herself?

Meanwhile, Dorothy was twitching and itching to pull the girl up and profusely apologise but she stood her ground and put her twitching to good use; she turned to her left and began playing Mrs. Packman.

The stranger jumped to her feet and dusted herself off, acting like nothing had even happened, before placing a quarter on the counter of the machine, announcing, "I have next game."

Dorothy hummed a meek response and continued playing.

The two stood there in silence for a few moments so the stranger decided to break it.

"I'm Zoe."

"That means life, from the Greek language." Dorothy replied rather than giving Zoe her name in exchange.

"No, nerd, you're meant to tell me your name!" Zoe scoffed, rolling her eyes at the quirky know-it-all--unbeknownst to her, this eye roll will become her trademark.

"Oh, right. I'm Dorothy."

"Like the girl from Wizard of Oz?" In response, Dorothy completely ignored the game in front of her and clicked her heels, drawing Zoe's attention to her feet and thus seeing the bright, glittery red heels that match the blue summer dress Dorothy wore. She did have plaits in earlier that day but unfortunately they were hacked off by the unforgiving hairdresser.

"Exactly. There's no place like home."

"There's no place like home," Zoe repeated.

The two chorused: "There's no place like home." Then they erupted into a fit of giggles where Dorothy managed out a 'we're both nerds now!'.

Five years later, Dorothy still goes to the arcade of video games fortnightly with her mother but after three years there's still no sign of Zoe.

Three years prior, Dorothy had arrived at the arcade skipping; she had a present for Zoe--the whole DVD collection of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Dorothy had soon learned Zoe had an unexplained infatuation with the television series but Dorothy loved it too so she didn't question it.

Now, every two weeks, Dorothy showed up with the same DVD set in hopes that Zoe would magically appear out of thin air and they'd play video games at her house whilst Zoe's mom yelled inappropriate actions at the television playing Broadchurch. There were so many that Dorothy heard but her favourite was:

"Stop being so attractive, Mr. Ten-Inch or I'll smash your pretty face against a wall of spikes!" Then a cry was heard where Zoe's mother apologised to the television because it went to the adverts after her statement.

"Hey, loser," a familiar voice said, snapping Dorothy out of her daydream.

It was only Dorothy's sister, Vicky.

"What do you want?"

"Just telling you that there's a girl asking for you. She's by Mrs. Packman."

"What!" Dorothy screeched. The girl practically flew from her seat on one of the old plastic chairs by the doors and went to find Mrs. Packman. "Z-Zoe?"

"Stay still," Zoe said, "very still." So Dorothy did.

"Why, wha--"

"Shhh." Dorothy heard Zoe's footsteps approach. "There's something in your hand."

Suddenly, the collection of Sabrina DVDs were snatched from Dorothy's grasp and an excited squeal filled the arcade.

"Oh, my god! I-I can't express how--" Zoe wrapped Dorothy in a hug.

"Whoah," Dorothy playfully pushed Zoe off of her. "Three years, dude."

"Oh right, erm, well we moved. You never gave me your address so I couldn't write a letter and I don't actually know your last name so I couldn't search you but there is good news!"

"I have some news too. But you first."

"My mom got us a house in Beacon again. Your turn."

"I don't know how to word it, but basically I-I..." Dorothy trailed her words, contemplating her thoughts for a moment.

Then she kissed Zoe.

There are going to be a lot of crossovers with my works and @praeliator / @newtoween 's trajectory story. So I guess just expect that!

Sorry if this is shit.
