when ends meet

Part 3

"What do you mean you can't go to the party!"Maya yells into the phone.

"I m sorry its a family thing."

"What kind of family thing?" Maya asked. I couldn't tell her about my father it would be to complicated so i tried to make something up."my uh grandmother fell down the stairs."i lied.

"Oh no thats terrible! Is she okay?"

"Yea she just broke her hip nothing to serious." i lied again trying to sound as casual as possible.

"Well okay then i hope she gets better sorry you have to miss the party."

"Yea me to."

"i gotta go but i'll see you tomorrow."

"bye." i said hanging up the phone. I can't believe i just lied to my best friend. I guess it's for the better i mean the last thing i need right now is pity and the first thing i need to do is pay off that debt without my aunt finding out. I open the folder and look at the pictures again I wonder what he was like if he was happy when he died or where he was going. I closed the folder and put it on my desk and then I flopped onto my bed. There are so many questions and thoughts flowing through my mind and I don't want to think anymore it's been a long day and all i want to do right now is sleep. i put on a pair of pyjama shorts and a tank top and curl up in my bed and fall asleep maybe tomorrow will be a better day.

I awoke to my alarm and did what i do every Saturday i got ready for work. I took a nice warm shower than got into my work clothes which was a rosey pink dress with a white apron and white sneakers. I put my hair in a high ponytail and headed down the stairs and out the door locking it behind me. I worked at the diner that was 2 blocks away from my house so i walked there arriving at 9 am sharp.

"Morning Terra." Rosa called to me as i entered through the employee entrance in the kitchen.

"Morning Rosa." i called back to her as i punched my card indicating that i had entered on time. I grabbed my note pad and took some peoples orders that were sitting at the counter. The morning droned on of me taking orders and bringing them to costumers and answering questions about the morning special and whatever else. Finally at noon it was time to set up for lunch and i got my break. "I'm going on break." i called to Rosa who was cleaning the dishes.

"Ok dearie make sure to be back before we open again." she called back to me as i was putting out some lunch menu's on some tables."Ok." I said walking out the door. I walked across the street to a little coffee house that Maya works at.

"Hello may i take your order." Maya asked me without looking up from her note pad. "Terra!" she exclaimed quietly so not to draw attention to herself.

"I'm good you." i said with a smile.

"good it feels like forever since i last saw you." she said sadly.

"is been like 12hours."

"Well its been the longest 12hours ever." she said giggling and i laughed."Ok so i know you don't have long so i'll get you your usual."

"thank you i called to her as she walked away from the table and into the kitchen.5 minutes later she returned with my black coffee and muffin.

"Here you are enjoy."

"Thank you." i said to her as she placed the food in front of me.

"No problem." she said before returning to her work. i ate the muffin and drank the coffee then left 5 dollars in the check book then left to go back to the diner. Lunch was busier than breakfast i went from table, to booth, to counter for hours at a time until finally it was time to prepare for dinner. I helped the other waitresses clear off tables and put out dinner menus.

"Terra!" One of the older waitresses named Clara who worked mostly the night shifts came to greet me."How are you?"

"Im good how are you?" i asked politely.

"I'm wonderful! Hows your aunt doing?"

"She's good. How are the girls?"

"as cute as ever! Look." She exclaimed before pulling out her phone to show me pictures of her 7 month old grand children.

"Awwww how adorable."i gushed at the pictures of the babies.

"They are the cutest."Clara exclaimed before turning off her phone and putting it in the pocket of her apron. A couple costumers came in and i took their order while Clara and Rosa did the dishes."What can I get for you."I asked the costumer.

"I will have a hamburger with a coffee." The man said before handing me his menu.

"No problem." I took his menu and Put it in the counter where we keep the spare menu's then went into the kitchen and started on his burger. After the patties were on the stove i started a fresh brew of coffee. The coffee was brewed in less than five minutes and i grabbed a clean cup and took it out to the man.

"Here you go." I said pouring the coffee into the mug.

"Thanks." He said. I took the coffee pot back into the kitchen and put it in the coffee maker. Rosa and Clara had finished the dishes Rosa took over making the hamburger and fries and Clara was taking someones order. The clock turned eleven and i was finished my shift."Bye Rosa."I said to her when Ientered to grab my card that marks the times I left and came.

"Bye Terra see you tomorrow."She called to me as i left the diner. When I opened the door i hit someone."Sorry!"I said to the person I hit."I didn't know anybody was out here."

"It's fine."The guy said before looking at me and when he did i realized who I just hit."Oh gosh your bleeding wait here." I said before entering into the diner and grabbing the first aid kit I took it out to him and sat down next to him grabbing an alcohol swab and cleaning up the cut above his eye then putting a band aid over it.

"I'm Cooper."He said with a smile.

"Terra."I said not looking up at him and fumbling with the first aid kit.

"You go to my school right?"

"Last time I checked."I said getting up to return the first aid kit to the diner.

"Thats it?" He asked in confusion.

"What?" I asked completely confused.

"Well usually girls fall all over me."He said arrogantly. I laughed.

"Excuse me but i am not that superficial that i fall for the first guy i see." I said angrily turning into the diner.

"Whatever your not my type anyway." He muttered arrogantly under his breath as i walked away. I can't believe the nerve of that guy. but i was to tired to think about it so i returned the first aid kit and walked home.
