I made it out of the hospital with my feet... bare, a busted lip, and a dirty torn up white and blue pokka-dotted hospital gown. I'm hungry, dirty, tired, and need to find a place to sleep for now. The nights get really cold in San Diego, even in the summers. But the heat during the afternoon seems to last forever. It reminds me of the Florida heat but ten times worse, at least in Florida there is palm trees you can save yourself with, but down here in California... its miles of dry deserts and tumbleweeds for days. Not a single tree in sight. Only the orange never ending carpets of dirt and sand.

I'm only six or seven hours away on my feet so far and they have already gotten back on my ass. "Damn it." The lab guards found me. I needed to hurry and try to lose them. After minutes of searching, I finally find an abandoned 7-11 gas station on a lonely corner intersection. I make my way into to the weathered gas station and look for something I could use to disguise myself as best as I can. The silence of the small room is what kills me. I'm all alone. I look for a pair of scissors on the cashiers counter, I find a cup full of pens and highlighters and stationary items. I find a pair of scissors and enter the bathroom. I lock it behind me and get to cleaning myself up.

First my bruised bloody lip, then my hair. The hair. This is going to be hard. I always loved my long silky black hair it was so soft and comforted me. It made me think of when my mother to used to brush it every time I got out of the shower. It's the only thing have left of my mother. My parents died when I was in the military, in a plane crash. They were actually on there way back home from Italy visiting some family of ours and it just happened. I remember my stomach being in knots that winter morning, crying my eyes out on my couch watching the devistating news. I did'nt even get to say goodbye. I miss visiting them in Florida. I wish I could go back. I can't go back.
