I walked down the hall and spotted the number to my dorm room.
I was about to open the door when I heard whispers behind me.
I looked back and saw two girls standing by their door frame opposite from my room. One was tall and had long blond hair in a high ponytail with short shorts and a crop top - too much skin, obviously one those girls in college- and the other was a brunette short hair and was wearing similar clothing to the other.
Their heads were close together whispering. Probably about me. I sighed.
I am so fed up with this.
I had to go through with this with other girls in my past few years of education (more like torture) but hey this is college I'm not letting it be ruined by some b*tchy girls.
I unlocked the door and I stepped into the room. It wasn't what I expected. There was a en-suite bathroom and a large walk-in closet.
Another thing I noticed was there was someone already on the other side of the room. On their bed. With headphones.
"Hey roomy!" I said while looking at her. She was a girl with dark clothing on her, pale but with some scars; and she had pastel mint green hair.
What a strange combination.
She was clearly ignoring me.
I waved a hand in front of her face, "hello?" I asked.
Her grey blue eyes looked up at me, "Yea?" She replied.
"I'm your new roommate, and I thought it would be good if we could get to know each other." I smiled fondly.
I saw advice online saying that when you move to a dorm and you are sharing it with someone, whoever it may be, you have to get to know them.
"There's nothing to know about me." She said with no expression.
"Yes there is, I'm actually really new around here. It's my first time in XXXX (A/N- sorry I don't really know where to say the college is!!) and I would like to have one friend." I think I ranted a bit too much.
"Go ask everyone else in the girls dorms and you will find out a lot of things." She said a bit fed up.
"Oh." So the girls outside weren't talking about me. They were talking about her. "Ok let's start over. Hey,What's your name? Mines Maddie nice to meet you."
My roomie brightened up a bit and took off her headphones, "Mines Sahara, and it's nice to meet you too! Do you....um want to pack away our stuff?" She asked.
I gave a nod and we started to unpack our luggage while getting to know each other without me listening and getting to know her from the rumours.
Cause like what's better, getting to know someone from a rumour, a lie , or from themselves, the truth?

After about two hours or so, me and Sahara finally finished fixing out where we were gonna put our stuff in the walk-in closet.
"You're so fun to be with Maddie. I'm happy and lucky to have you as my roommate." She smiled and I returned a similar grateful smile.
We heard a knock on the door.
We both went towards the door and opened it wide to see the headteacher.
"Girls get ready we have a Welcoming assembly in the lecture theatre in 30 minutes."
"Ok yes sir." We replied.
Closing the door, I then walked towards the walk-in closet and started looking through my clothes.
But Sahara wasn't next to me, she was on her bed texting someone it seemed and she looked very stressed.
"Sahara?" I looked at her worried.
"Oh um yea," she put her phone in her pocket,"sorry it was just....my mum." She was not looking ok.
So I went to her and sat down next to her. "I know we have only known each other in 6 hours, but I just want u to know that I'm here and u can always confide in me. With all those disgusting rumours saying u are bruised cause you're being abused at home, ignore them and come to me ok?" I reassured her as best as I could.
"Ok." Was her only reply. But it seemed that she was in her shell again.
She went into that mood a lot in the past few hours, I will ask her something, she will answer but hesitantly. Like she has to hide something.
But I don't mind.
She seems to like that kind of isolated feeling.
"Come on we will be late to the Welcoming and we need to be there." I said while already looking through my clothes.

A little later, we were both ready. I was wearing a denim shorts and a 'Keep calm and love me' light blue t-shirt and white vans. My hair was in a bun and I also decided to put my hair down.
Sahara was still wearing her black outfit. But I coaxed her into wearing a black bow at least.
She looked nice already without makeup so we didn't put any, and her scars were still very visible.
It was like she didn't care who saw them. It was like battle wounds.
"Let's go." I said.

A/N ahhh this took long to type. Hopefully the story is going well. Like I said I'm writing it straight from my head. It was not planned. 😊💖😉
