Goose Chase

"hello?" she said, looking at the stranger.

he stepped out of the shadows. it was a boy, around her age. he had blazing red hair, and a face dotted with freckles. he was holding a knife in one shaky hand, and the end to the rope in the other.

He ran up to test tube. "oh, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to catch you!"

"its okay, it really is. just... get me down. please." Test tube said, pointing at the rope, which latched around her left ankle.

"oh, right." he cut the rope, and caught test tube as she plummeted to the ground, which, made him fall over a bit. "ow- you okay?"

test tube looked at the boy and nodded. he put her back on her feet.

"my name's balloon. what's your name?" balloon, (the boy) said. he stretched out his arm for hand shake.

"test tube." she shook balloon's hand, then gently let go. she stuffed both her hands into her lab coat's pockets. "can you tell me where we are right now?"

"from what the elders tell me, a time paradox?"

"time paradox? Elders?" test tube was both shocked and confused.

"let me just show you." balloon said, he grabbed test tube's hand and leaded her a ledge, which overlooked what seemed to be a small colony. people living in tents along a dirt pathway, farming, breeding the animals of the forest, talking and, playing.

"...wow." test tube said, looking down at all the people.

Balloon started climbing down the ledge "come on, what are waiting for?"

test tube soon followed him.

Balloon leaded her down the dirt path, people of the little village gazing at her in awe. test tube didn't know why, or where balloon was leading her. but, they ended up approaching a dark cave, stalagmites and stalactites peaking from the rims, which where weaved in vine.

"Elders! We got another wanderer!" balloon called out to the cave

test tube got confused at the name he gave her "wanderer?"

"shshsh- just wait, okay?" balloon shushed test tube, and made her look at the cave.

soon after, two women in black cloaks and 1600's era clothing came out. one was tall and slim, while the other was a short and plump.

"Hello you two, I'd like you to introduce you two to test tube." balloon said, motioning towards the young scientist.

test tube shyly waved at the two women.

the taller one whispered something to the shorter one. then, she spoke.

"Greeting young traveler, from what you look, you seem to be a unraveler. my name is taco, and this is mic. we are the elders, the ones in charge, and the ones who started all these guelders."

"...what?" test tube said, looking at taco.

"she speaks in only rhymes, get used to it." balloon answered. "anyways, thank you, elders." he said, bowing a little.

the two women curtsied, then walked back into the cave, one at a time.

"anyways, lets go meet the others." balloon said, going to lead Test Tube once again. but, test tube stayed put.

"wait, wait, wait. what was up with them? they looked like they where from the Salem witch trails!"

balloon turned around "oh, that's because they are." the two started going back and forth.

"wait what? how?"

"from what I now, people here can't die of natural causes. like starving, aging, disease, etc. remember when I said time paradox?"

"oh- wait then what time are you from?"

"i'm from the late 1920's. people from the early 2000's come in here all the time, so I figured out how to talk like you guys do."

"oh."

the two walked into the town, then balloon started to introduce test tube to everyone there. after a while, they finally came to the very last person in the town.

"and... meet marshmellow!"

A black woman, with white as snow hair looked up, she wore red lipstick on her lip, and a white turtleneck.

"hi, i'm test tube. i'm from 2019"

"huh, the world made it that far without humanity blowing up? huh." marsh said, looking at test tube. "i'm marsh. i'm from the late 1980's, early 1990's."

the two started to talk, when, they heard a distant scream.

"what was that?!" test tube said, she was mildly panicking. she looked around for the source.

balloon pulled out his knife, and marsh also pulled out a knife too.

"probably the hallow." marsh said, listening in on the sound.

"but the hallow doesn't hunt during the day! marsh, you know this!" balloon said, he grabbed marsh's shoulder.

"can someone tell me whats going on right now?" test tube asked.

"we'll explain later. just... stay and balloon will go see whats going down." marsh said. she and balloon soon turned around, and left.

but, instead of listening to them, test tube followed the two.
