Harry

I woke up with a start, my phone vibrating on the left side of my bed. I stretch out my legs followed by my arms, letting out a long yawn. I grabbed my phone, checking the text I had recieved.

Happy Friendaversary! Wanna meet at the benches?

I smiled. Daisy was my best friends. We had met in year 2 and we've been inseparable ever since. That is, of course, until secondary school started. We didn't talk as much in school but we still lived near one another, so hanging out outside of school wasn't a problem.

We had these special spots we marked as our own, where we would meet just to talk and trade books. I mean, yeah, it did kind of suck that we didn't talk much in school, but it happens.

I quickly typed a response.

        Me: Sure, meet in 10?

Within seconds, she had replied.

        Yup! See you soon!

I checked the time: 1:48pm and it's Saturday, thank god.

I rolled my self out of bed, savoring the warmth of my bed and the covers on it. I had managed to get up and quickly began to get ready.

I made my bed then made my way to the attatched bathroom. I undressed and got into the shower, washing my self quickly.

It took me less than 5 minutes to wash my body and shampoo my hair. I brushed my teeth then realized I had 2 minutes until I had to be at the benches. I got dressed, wearing black jeans and a white shirt with hands all over it because I knew it was Daisy's favourite shirt of mine.

I grabbed the gift I had gotten for Daisy, putting it gently in my backpack along with a book of her's that she let me borrow a little over 2 weeks ago. I hadn't talked to her for the past bit, mostly because she has had a lot of homework and in her free time she'd spend time with her boyfriend called Kurtis.

I made my way downstairs where my mum greeted me. "Good morning Harry, are you hungry?" she asked.

I shook my head whilst sliding on my shoes. "No, thanks though, mum,"

"Alright, well, when you're hungry, there's going to be this food in the fridge," she finished, pointing at the plate of food in her hands.

"Great, Thanks. I'm going out,"

"Be safe!" she called, disapearing into the living room.

I stepped outside into the cold crisp fall air, taking in the smell of autumn and the colourful leaves on the ground.

I started to jog, realizing I was late. I reached the benches that sit around a little pond, walking to the bench Daisy was in. "Harry!" she exclaimed, getting up from where she was sitting and running over to me, envoloping me into a hug.

"Hey Daisy," I smile back at her, taking in her hug. "Happy Friendaversary,"

We walked back to the bench she was previously sitting at, sitting down next to each other with our bags by our sides. "How've you been, Harry? Haven't seen you in a while,"

"Yeah, I've been good, how have you been?"

"That's good Harry! And yeah, I've been good aswell,"  It was obvious she was really excited and happy, or maybe she just had too much coffee before coming out here.

"I got you this," I spoke, opening my bag and pulling out a wrapped up box not bigger than a shoe box. Her smile brightened, even more so than before, if that was even possible.

She reached into her bag, pulling out something rather thin and square, but like my gift, was wrapped up.

"Thanks," I said, giving her  a warm smile. She watched me intently, whilst I held the gift. "Go on, open it!"

I let out a laugh then decided she wasn't going to open her gift first, so I might as well.

I peeled off the wrapping paper to reveal and large record. It was the Queen ll record, and taped to the record was a 20£ note along with a little card saying 'Happ Friendaversary!'.

"Do you like it?" she said, nervously. I looked up from the large record in my lap. I began to nod, pulling her into a hug. "Thanks, Dais,"

"No problem. I hope you enjoy it, I wasn't sure if you'd like it so like, if you don't, you could always buy a different record," she finished, pointing at the note taped onto the record.

I nodded toward that box in her lap, a gesture telling her to open it. I started to get nervous. Would she like the gift? Well, I guess I was soon to find out.

She carefully unwrapped the box, then slowly opened the lid, revealing the items inside. First, she pulled out a book titled 'The People look like Flowers at Last' by Charles Bukowski, one of my favourite books along with a box of mint tea, because it was her favourite.

Next, she pulled out a small record, The Smiths, to be specific.

And finally, she pulled out the last gift, a key necklace that had 'Trust' pressed in. she looked up from the box, pulling me into a hug. "Thank you so much, Harry, I love all of it,"

I mentally high fived my self, proud that I got a good gift.

I reached into my bag, pulling out the book she had let me borrow basically forever ago. "Oh, and by the way,"

I flipped through the pages, then stopped when I finished, looking at the cover. The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. "It's not a bad book," I admitted, handing it back to her. "Although very, very boring."

"I agree. Read it for the first time in year 9, reckon the other year 9 english class had had all of the To kill a mockingbird books. Nearly fell asleep during the first reading, I'll admit. My year 9 english teacher thoroughly enjoyed reading aloud," She let out a giggle.

I watched as she let her head drop, looking down at her lap where her hands sat, holding the book. God, she has the most beautiful smile.

"I miss you," I said sadly, causing her to look up at me.

"I miss you, too. We haven't met up in forever!"

"Lets hang at the beach tomorrow, yeah?" I offered. She propped up at this proposal. "Yeah, lets do it!"

Just as she finished agreeing, her phone went off. She picked it up from the spot beside her, answering.

"Hey Kurtis! Yeah, we're still on. You coming at 6 still, or," she paused.

"Yeah, alright. See you then, bye,"

She hung up, putting her phone back down. Letting out a sign, she glanced over at me. "That was Kurtis," she began.

Wow, really? I didn't notice when you said hey Kurtis

"Yeah?"

An awkward cough escaped her lips. "Yeah. We're hanging around 6. Considering its just after 2, I'd better get going soon. You know, to get ready and all,"

I nodded in agreement, noting that girls take forever to get ready, even for the simplest things. We had been sitting here for a total of only 20 minutes and it sucked that I only got to see her for a short amount of time every once in a while.

I guess 20 minutes was better than nothing.

I stood up from the bench after collecting my things and putting them in the bag. Daisy followed my lead, packing up her things and standing up aswell.

I pulled her in for a hug. "Thanks for the record, Daisy. See you tomorrow,"

"Yeah, not a problem. Thanks for the book and everything."

We pulled apart, waving at one another as we went in our seperate directions.
