"Table for two!" A waitor called out as my date held out his arm for me. "Kelsey, you look beautiful." Denis said as we walked to our table. It was the night of his senior prom and I was his hot, model, junior date. We were an adorible couple. We were so happy. Our parents were inseperable, we hung out virtually every day, and we were perfect. The very face of young love. We'd been close since we met in a sophmore choir that I was actually good enough to get into. We thought we would be together forever. That is untill he got into college. We promised we'd skype every day, but everyone knows long distance relationships never worked. He cheated on me within the first month of leaving. His parents moved to Florida, where his college was and we never spoke again.
Every once in a while, I look at his facebook page. I want to make sure he's not suffering from post breakup anxiety, even two years on. He definately hasn't been. So today, I decided to see how he was doing. Not to be a creep, but because I genuinely still care about him. I spen three years of my life with him so I think I have the right to check up on him once in a while. So imagine my surprise when I turn to click open my laptop and he's calling me. I take a moment to freak out before collecting myself and clicking the answer call button.
"Kelsey, hey." He says. I sort of akwardly wait for him to continue and he akwardly waits for me to respond. "Um, I know this is weird, considering we left off at kind of an akward split up, but I want you to know that I still think about you all the time and I still have feelings for you." I watch him, studying all this features. He's still just as attractive as I remember.
"Denis, I ask you this because I care, and because we haven't spoken in two years, and because you have tear stains on your cheeks, are you drunk?" "No!" "Are you on drugs?" "NO!" "Then why in the world are you calling me?" "Because I want to get back together." At this, I practically laugh.
"You want me to get back together with you? I hope you know that I'm not exactly the most exciting person to be with at the moment." He makes a face, and then nods. "Oh yeah, I heard about that. Believe it or not, our parents actually still keep up sometimes. I actually...." And with that, he threw up. I had already figured out he was drunk by then anyways. I hung up. He probably wouldn't remember this in the morning anyways.
"Kelsey! I've made some mac and cheese if you'd like it!" My mother called from downstairs. And with that, I switched off my computer and things went back to how they were before that call with Denis. For now, anyways.
