slippery edges coiling around
the present state of affairs
a serpentine escalation
to darkness cloaked depths
or the cloud engulfed summits
monotonous creak -
an accompaniment to your
daily scheme of activities
a sound too casually omitted
even when you keep polishing
the banisters that guide you
through the stair well
