chapter 20

donghyuck watched anxiously as taeil and zhenting stood in silence, taeil contemplating his next words

he looked at mark, wondering why the boy wouldn't meet his eyes but he brushed it off. shooting a faint smile to a restless kun. the brothers yearning for each other's embrace

kun finally had enough and marched forward, pushing a baffled hendery out of the way and enveloped his brother in his arms

donghyuck laughed softly as kun hugged him tightly, laying his head on his shoulder "i'm fine hyung. they didn't do anything to me"

kun met donghyuck's eyes, shocking the younger seeing how they were on the verge of tears

"but if they did?"

donghyuck was taken aback by the blunt question but understood where his brother was coming from. kun gripped donghyuck's shoulders, "you should never have been caught up in all of this"

something about the tone of his voice worried donghyuck, he pulled his brother back into an embrace. rubbing comforting circles on his back

"ahem" and awkward cough disturbed the peace

yangyang stood forward, smiling at kun with an outstretched hand "liu yangyang" he said with a bright smile

kun stared at his hand before looking back to meet his eyes. he glared at the boy and hastily pulled donghyuck away

"what are you doing hyung" donghyuck hissed, confused as to why his brother was acting so out of character

he looked back to yangyang who had a hurt expression on his face, mouthing a sorry before he allowed himself be dragged back to the group

donghyuck shrugged his arm out of his brother's grip, frowning at him before catching the eye of mark who seemed to be in a trance staring at him

before he could take a step in his direction mark whipped around, his back coldly facing donghyuck but that didn't stop the younger from hugging him

"hey markie" he whispered int to elders ear, he feelt him tense up in his hold

mark gruffly nudged him off "lay off hy- donghyuck" he said sharply before going to stand with taeil who was now deep into conversation with zhenting, justin and johnny

jeno stood with jaehyun, watching his friend sadly. he thought donghyuck might have been the one to finally let mark open up but once again his walls had come back up

donghyuck could only stare after his body. his hands falling limply to his side

the pang in his heart was only small but noticeable. kun sighed, his frustrated demeanour disappearing as he watched his brother shrink in disappointment

he clasped his hand softly "give him some time, he's got a lot going on right now" kun said warmly, his motherly side making an appearance

kun wiped the stray tear that was gliding down the youngers tender glowing skin. his lips pushed into a pout and his eyebrows pulled together in worry "what did i do hyung?" donghyuck asked

he wanted to know why mark was acting indifferent towards him

"nothing hyuckie, i promise it's not your fault" kun assured

taeil made his presence known by placing a hand on donghyuck's shoulder

"we're going back to the house, they're coming as well" he motioned to the bored members of vision who were now playing an interesting version of spotlight in the hazy evening light

the sun was saying it's last goodbyes, peeking out from the trees allowing the darkness to engulf the sky

the ride back to the house was painfully awkward and silent. kun and donghyuck rode with taeil and mark who sat in the front, not a sound escaping their lips

when they arrived donghyuck was bowled over by an emotional jaemin and a tearful renjun

"you stupid bitch, why do you have to be so kidnap-able" renjun scolded while clinging onto donghyuck who was trying to pry jaemin off him but the younger was persistent with his kisses he was littering all over his face

"what about me?" a pouting jeno stood with his arms crossed, not enjoying the sight of his boyfriends smothering someone other than him

and suddenly jaemin was hanging off jeno, doing the same to the now blushing boy, cooing at his cuteness

a loud slam shifted their attention to mark who stormed into the house, not bothering to leave the door open for the others

and suddenly donghyucks mood seemed to drop more rapidly than james charles' subscriber count

jaemin turned to the four boys that stood out of place beside a large car

he narrowed his eyes and pointed at them accusingly "you"

he waltzed over and poked the now startled boys in the chest "you had us fooled left to right, how do you do it so well?" jaemin's words turning cheerful and bright

yangyang giggled nervously "good to know we're cool. right?" he said warily as xiaojun and hendery stood behind him, intimidated by the boy smiling unnaturally widely

justin rolled his eyes at his friends and followed zhenting and taeil into the house along with the tall built males who had accompanied them, still armed, eyeing renjun who seemed to be strangling the smiley boy ... lovingly?

the boys made their way back into the house, all throwing themselves onto the couches being exhausted for no apparent reason

donghyuck slipped up the stairs quietly, taking a deep breath before he knocked on mark's door

he heard a loud thud then some rushed shuffling before mark appeared at the door, clutching his elbow

his eye's widened momentarily before his face set a blank expression

he pulled donghyuck inside, making sure to close the door behind him
