Chapter Three:

Draco walked, back straight and chin held high into the Great Hall. He walked over confidently to the Slytherin table, with Crabbe and Goyle to his left side and Pansy to his right. People giggled at him.

"The bloody rumours aren't true." He snapped at a group of Ravenclaw girls who laughed as they walked past the Slytherin table. He glared at them. "How can a rumour like that even spread? I've got a girlfriend haven't I?" He mumbled under his breath. Draco filled his plate with eggs, toast and a couple pieces of bacon.

Pansy leaned in to whisper something in his ear. Draco leaned closer to her, as to hear. "Kiss me. Maybe that will prove to them." Draco's eyes lit up at the idea. Pansy was truly brilliant sometimes, even if she wasn't as good Harry Potter.

This time was Draco's turn to be dominant. He roughly kissed her, right there at the Slytherin table and slide his tongue inside her mouth as he felt her gasp. Pansy kissed back even rougher, and Draco barely managed to keep from making noise. He heard someone clear their throat behind them and pulled away from Pansy.

He craned his head to see that it was Professor Mcgonagall. He crossed his fingers, hoping she would take points away from Slytherin for this, so that everyone would know he was kissing Pansy even if they hadn't seen it.

"Yeah, what is it?" He answered, attitude and defiance in his voice. A bit of Pansy's saliva was dripping from his chin, and as he turned to face Mcgonagall he wiped it off with the sleeve of his robes. She gave him a look of disgust.

"5 points from Slytherin!" Mcgonagall announced, glaring at Malfoy and Patty. "And next time," she said more quietly. "I suggest getting a room." She advised the young couple. Malfoy hoped everyone at the table had heard that. He hoped the whole world had heard it. He knew it would help him deny the rumours being spread. He saw a few people from Griffindor cheering at the fact that Slytherin just lost points.

For once Draco was happy that Slytherin lost. It meant a gain for him. He smirked, shoving bacon and eggs into his mouth. The Slytherin table glared at him and Pansy for losing points. Draco knew they would just win them back eventually.

Malfoy momentarily glanced up at Harry. With his round black glasses and his hair that was always slightly tousled, Draco couldn't help but stare. He felt somehow, that a new hope was beginning to stir within him. That maybe for once, he had a chance at something else. Something outside of what his father wanted for him. He knew it would be hard. He knew he shouldn't let himself dream of these things, for dreams could so easily be lost. He turned away from Harry and stared down at his plate.

Crabbe playfully elbowed him in the ribs. "Guess the rumours aren't true then, eh mate?" Crabbe said, his mouth still full of food, and a couple pieces of vegetable stuck between his teeth. Malfoy went along with and laughed.

"A rumour like that?" Malfoy laughed again. It was a cruel, evil laugh. A laugh that wasn't entire natural, but by now he was so used to laughing like that it seemed to come naturally. "I bet Potter spread it, cause he's got a secret crush on me!" Malfoy spoke, just a bit too loudly. He hoped people would hear. He hoped people would know that the rumours weren't true. He hoped with a hope that was more than hope. He knew what would happen if his father were to find out. Just the very thought of it nearly made him quake with fear. His father would beat him. That was the truth. Ruthlessly. At first. He would torture Draco. Then murder him, perhaps even sacrificing him in one of his spells for the Dark Lord.

He'd be a disappointment. He'd be just as bad a mud blood. His father would never be able to see him under the same light again. He would never accept him. Despite the harsh truth, Draco still found himself entertaining fantasies. Dreams that could never happen in the real world. Dreams of him and Potter being together, in public, holding hands. Dreams of him going right up and telling his father. Dreams of his father accepting this, and continuing to love Draco just the same as before.
