Chapter 5: Murder on D street

Narumi's POV

I opened my eyes to see Akutagawa asleep in the chair next to my bed. I chuckled silently and coughed a little. I was feeling better, but my insides felt terrible. They felt as if they were either on fire, or someone was punching them over, and over, and over again. I heard Akutagawa groan and saw him shift in the chair as he started to wake up. I curled up in a ball in an attempt to ease the pain in my torso, to no avail.

"Morning Narumi," Akutagawa told me.

"Morning," I said in a slightly raspy voice. Akutagawa smiled and got up to get me some water. I thankfully gulped the water down and felt my throat open up and the pain in my torso lessen a bit. "Thanks," I thanked him, my voice no longer raspy. Akutagawa smiled a little and nodded. Suddenly, Akutagawa's phone started to ring.

"Here," He said and picked up the phone. I couldn't hear anything on the other end, but I could tell Akutagawa wasn't happy. "All right. Coming." He said and hung up. He held his phone in his hand and sighed. He then put it away and turned to me. "I have to go. There's a tactical meeting that I, sadly, can't talk to you about," He told me. I nodded in understanding.

"All right," I said. "I understand."

"I promise I'll visit soon though," He said. He walked over to me and kissed me gently on my forehead. I nodded and smiled a little. He walked out the door and Dazai-sama walked in at the same time. The two just exchanged glances and didn't say anything to each other. Dazai-sama closed the door and walked over to me. He stroked the top of my head and smiled.

"How are you doing, Narumi-chan?" he asked me.

"I'm ok," I managed. "It hurts," I said and curled into a ball a little more. He nodded and called for a nurse. When the nurse came in, she gave me something to eat and a medication tablet. I looked at it skeptically.

"It's ok," She reassured me. "It'll only help your stomach digest food for today. Once you take this, you'll be free to go." I nodded and reluctantly took the tablet. I waited for two minutes and I started to eat. The more I ate, the better I started to feel. The nurse pulled Dazai-sama out of the room to talk to him about something, but sadly I couldn't hear because of Dazai-sama's ability. They soon came back in and the nurse told me I was free to go. Apparently, I wasn't going to get charged anything because Yosano-sama was well known and got special privileges for the agency.

"Come on, Narumi." Dazai-sama smiled and helped me to my feet. I was a little weak, but I was slowly getting my strength back. "What say you and I go for a little swim in the river?" I nodded.

"Sure!" I said. "As long as it's not another suicide attempt," I told him. He just shrugged as we walked out of the hospital.

"No promises." He smiled. I sighed and shook my head. We soon got to the river and Dazai-sama immediately jumped in. I sighed again, jumped into the air, did a front flip, and landed in the water as a dolphin. I swam after Dazai-sama and stayed close to him.

*Having fun yet?* he asked me.

*Yep!* I told him. I made a couple of happy clicks and quickly circled him a couple of times. Dazai-sama laughed through our link and I smiled a little. We kept swimming for a bit when I noticed Dazai-sama didn't ever actually come up for occasional breaths as I did. I turned around and glared at him. *This is a suicide attempt!* I clicked angrily. Dazai-sama simply shrugged, but he suddenly looked a bit surprised and almost... a little scared.

*Narumi! Behind you!* he shouted. I turned around and I cried out when I got caught in a net thanks to the current. I squirmed around and clicked, feeling panicked, but I just got myself even more tangled up. *Hold on!* Dazai-sama told me and swam up to me. He was trying to help me out, but the net started to get pulled out of the water.
