Chapter 3 ১Layla১
Once the bell rang I wanted to escape the humid classroom. I was drawing Kirami, but her acknowledging this embarrassed me, I hate it when people look at my drawings without saying anything first, it's infuriating as someone calling your name an unreasonable amount of times. I got to my next class and sat down. I was the second student in the classroom surprisingly. However, I move like a cheetah when someone embarrasses me. I look over at the door to make sure that Kirami doesn't have this class with me.
Wrong.
I see Kirami look at me and walk over to the seat next to me,
"Do you even sit here?" I ask, not looking at her.
"Yeah, I do. Is that a problem, sweetheart?" She leans into my face, her minty breath hitting my freckled skin, my ears start burning as I stammer in my Australian accent, "U-uh... N-no, so-sorry," Kirami smiled, then sighed, her hair slightly shifting in the air that came out of her mouth. "Alright then," is all she said as she sat down. Mr. Quince, our math teacher passed out a packet with 10 pages in it,
"I would like you all to get the first 5 pages done today in class and finish the other 5 for homework." The class let out a noise of annoyance and irritation except for Kirami and me, Mr. Quince sighed and went to sit down at his desk. I began to answer the problems, which were relatively easy. I shot a sideways glance at Kirami who is only on the third page. I sigh emotionlessly and pull out my sketchbook and proceed to continue the drawing Kirami, carefully drawing every strand of her beautiful ebony hair, then carefully sculpting her signature smirk. I began drawing her neck, finding the center and drawing her slightly larger than normal (for a girl), adam's apple then moving down to her shoulders and tracing the straps of her T-shirt that were right next to her neck curving into her slim shoulders. I finished by lastly sculpting her chest and then signing it with my initials. I lifted my head, sighing and sliding my sketchbook over to Kirami. She looked at me with a bright red face as she moved her hair away from her eyes, "It's beautiful," she said breathlessly, I swallowed my emotions and nodded, "Thank you, I'm glad you like it," my voice was tasteless.

"Why do you like her?! Huh?!" I heard a familiar voice yell "She way out of your league!" I round the corner to see Sybelle, the most popular kid in my new school choking the shy boy of the school, Mortem the boy I bumped into in the hallway Monday.
"What are you doing?" Sybelle turns around dropping Mortem "Ahh, there's my Layla," he says walking up to me, cupping my face with his hand. I smack his hand away he smirks with irritation "I am not 'your Layla'" I feel the anger start to boil inside my soul. I pushed it back down. I turned to leave, however once I turned the corner I heard laughter and soon after, I heard blows landing. Fear swallows my whole as I run back to where Sybelle and Mortem were, I see Sy beating the living crap out of Mortem, I ran over to Sy blocking his next punch pushing him off of Mortem "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" I roared, "It-It's just..." "ANSWER ME, loud and proud how you insult people in the hallway..." Fury filled my voice as I felt the horrid aura of my anger pour out of me. He laughed, his laughter filled with anxiety
"I'm sure we all know that Mortem is in love with you... And I'm just trying to let him know that he has no chance with you whatsoever, you know, rattle his cage a little." He attempted to shrug it off.
"So that's an excuse?! That's an excuse to beat the brakes off of someone who has the same love interest as you?! You're in high school and you're this immature?!" I scoffed, then horror flooded me when the manifestation of my anger snached Sybelle and flung him against the brick wall. It then vanished as I ran over to him, picking his bloody head up and holding it in my lap. "Sy?? Sybelle??" My tears hit his face "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I never meant to hurt you! Come on stay here..." I put my fingers on the side of his neck checking his pulse, it thumping at a fast rate which was a good sign, however he was wavering in and out of consciousness.
"Layla..." I hear Mortem's weak voice called "What was that?" I heard sirens in the background "Oh thank god, the ambulance"
"STAND UP AND PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEAD, AND INTERLOCK YOUR FINGERS!!" the police yelled pointing their Glock 22's at my head I did as they said "GET ON YOUR KNEES!" Was their next order. I fell to my knees wincing as an officer ran over to me, pulling one of my arms down and locking the handcuffs on one of my hands, and proceeded to cuff the other. The officer sat me in the back of the car. He glanced at me in the back mirror,
"You didn't do that did you?" I couldn't look at him "I-I was just trying to break up the fight..." I choked on my words, it wasn't a lie, I was trying to break up the fight but ended up almost killing someone in the process. "What happened sweetheart?" I told him... Let the truth fall out of me like a waterfall. He looked at me in the rear-view mirror "You didn't do it on purpose, I know you never meant to hurt anyone... We'll just tell the chief that the boy tried to bodyslam the shy kid and hurt himself" I nodded " Don't tell anyone what happened alright?"
At home I lie in my bed, unable to sleep, all I could think about was... Sybelle's body hitting that brick wall.
Over.
And.
Over.
Again.
Thump. Crack. Thump. Crack
Somehow my body lost the battle of sleep and it felt like 1 minute later my alarm was going off. I groan as I get up and stretch.
•°At School°•
"Layla!" I hear someone call, I feel as though I've heard their voice before, I turn around and I see Orabelle running towards me "Orabelle?" I lazily inquired she hugged me viciously. "Oof... I thought you weren't zoned for this high school..." "Yeah I know, but I moved!" SHe beamed, "That's nice," I said blatantly. "Anddd guess who your new neighbors areee" She pointed finger guns at me "Oh lord Orabelle, now you can harass me whenever you feel like it" I complain flatly. I notice Kirami walking towards me "Hi Kirami," I call out waving to her, she halfway jogged over to me, her polka-dot bookbag bouncing behind her "Hey Layla" she said patting my head. I twitched slightly and she smiled at me brightly.
"Good morning?" Orabelle said waving her hand in front of my face "I exist you know..." Orabelle trailed off.
"Kirami this is Orabelle... Orabelle this is Kirami," I said half heartedly.
"I guess you can't handle not being looked at for 30 seconds." Kirami hissed, "I hate narcissistic people," Kirami grabbed my wrist and pulled me to the side "Who is that?" She demanded.
Orabelle walked over to where Kirami and I were standing "Anything you need to say to her, you can say in front of me." She said with a hint of passive aggressiveness in her voice, "Orabelle chill out... This is nothing that concerns you," I say, my eyelids drooping from my lack of sleep I got from the previous night.
"Whatever," Orabelle scoffed and rolled her eyes, walking away.
