Charon's POV
As I galloped up to the palace of Cascadia, I was thouroughly impressed. Flying buttresses arched over my head, and light gleamed off of the blue, crystaline structure. A page warmly greeted Oran and I, and after getting Oran settled in, led me to to the king's office. The inside was just as impressive as the outside, with delicate, intricately carved designs all over the arched ceiling, and breathtaking views from the periodically appearing balconies. After a three minute walk, we reached the king's office. The page knocked, a warm, feminine voice chimed, sending tingles up my spine, telling him to come in.
Baffled at my reaction to the girls voice, I strode in after the page's introduction. My eyes landed on the girl, who took one look at my face, and then stared down at my boots like they were the most interesting thing in the world. Puzzled, I completed the greeting ritual by bowing back to the king and...
She's the king's daughter! I realized after noticing the delicate circlet on her head.
When she came up from her bow, I got a good look at her face, and our eyes met. She had skin the color of hot-chocolate, and shoulder length hair that framed her regal, defined but soft, almost elf-like features.
She was not the prettiest girl I had seen, but I felt drawn to her, regardless. It was her eyes. Those eyes that peirced me now after shying away from me just moments ago. Lash-framed, lotus petal-shaped brown eyes that held determination in them. Eyes that pinned me down, eyes that I knew I would remember.
"Prince Charon," the king began, "We welcome you to Cascadia. Thank you for coming on such short notice."
"It is my pleasure, King Pelagius," I said smiling, trying to catch the girls eye, who appeared to be shooting daggers at something above my head.
God, what have I done to offend her? I just got here, for Pete's sake.
"Please, call me Pel. Didn't I tell you that last time? Ah, well, you were only 10 at the time, same age as my daughter. Now, you're a strapping young man of 16 years, eh?" Pel said good naturedly.
Your daughter doesn't seem to think I'm so strapping.
Jeez, why do I even care? I'm just an emissary. It's not like I'm here to marry her or something.
My face blanched. Well, I was here to discuss the precedings for the Crown Ball. Which meant that I would have to dance with her. All the heirs of opposing elements were to open the ball. Because Fire and Darkness had no heirs as of yet, although the Fire Queen was pregnant, that meant I would be paired with the feisty little devil in blue, who was currently glaring at the top of my head like she wanted to light it on fire, or more appropriately, drench it in ice cold water.
Great. Just great.
Suck it up, Charon. You've dealt with girls who didn't like you. By the end of the day, they were all swooning in your arms whether you wanted them to or not. But of course, you wanted them to.
I eyed her warily.
I don't think its going to be the same this time. Not with her.
