Chapter 10- A Lie

Tokiya's POV

I looked around everywhere Kotobuki-san might have been, but I still saw no sign of him. One of the door knobs I touched was incredibly filthy, because it led to the boiler room. I went to go wash my hands in the restroom.

There was only one restroom in the whole area for some odd reason. That restroom is very large, and it even has a closet. Staff members stored their equipment and cleaning supplies in there.

I walked into the restroom, and looked around a bit. There was no one there. I walked towards the sink, and then turned on the faucet. The water was lukewarm. Dried off my hands with a paper towel. Just when I was about to leave, I heard a strange sound coming from the closet.

“Ghhh…”

I went towards the closet to find out what was going on. When I opened the door, what was inside shocked me.

“K-Kotobuki-san? What on Earth on you doing here!”

Kotobuki-san was sitting in the corner of the storage closet. He was sitting with his head in his knees, and his arms wrapped around his legs. He didn't say anything, but I could tell that he was crying.

“Kotobuki-san, please tell me what is wrong.”

“There is nothing to say. It's already over.”

“Is this about Mikaze-san?”

Kotobuki-san flinched, and tightend his ball formation, just like pill bug would do.

I bent down to Kotobuki-san's level, crouching down in the small closet.

“Kotobuki-san, please look at me and talk to me. I cannot help you if you do not speak to me.”

“I DON'T WANT YOUR HELP! IT'S ONE AFTER ANOTHER WITH YOU GUYS!” Kotobuki-san exclaimed.

Kotobuki-san calmed down, and finally looked up at me. In a lower toned voice than what he usually spoke with, he said:

“I never asked for any of your help. All of you guys keep bothering me… I didn't ask for your pity.”

I looked him directly in the eyes. He stared back into my bluish purplish eyes. He had a bruise on his left cheek, but I'll ask about that later.

“Kotobuki-san, why do you think everyone is bothering you?” I asked.

“Obviously because you think that I acting annoying. Or because I'm not acting “like myself”, or because I made Ran-Ran and Mikaze-san mad, or-”

“That's not true at all.”

Kotobuki-san started to look down at the floor again. He was probably trying to hide his tears.

“Y-yes it is true. You wouldn't understand how it feels to always act like another person, or lose everything important to you!

I looked at him with a straight face. Before I had time to react, Kotobuki-san stood up, and tried to run to the door. Fortunately, I was able to grab his shoulders, and look directly at his face, as I was unable to do before.

“Kotobuki-san” I said.

He was on the verge of crying once again. His eyes were already a bit puffy from the crying earlier.

“Kotobuki-san, please tell me everything.”

“The-there's nothing to say. I already told you this…”

I really hate to pry, but I cannot have him returning to work acting like this. Even though he'll act as nothing is wrong.

Kotobuki-san seemed as he didn't want anything to do with telling me the truth. He told me a lie.

“M-my dog… my dog died last night.”

What a terrible lie. He lives with the QUARTET NIGHT members, but I've never heard any of them talk about Kotobuki-san's dog.

If he declines all of my help, then I have no choice but to let him go. I decided to tell him about myself.

“Kotobuki-san, I also have lived as a lie.”

He looked at me again. Confused.

“Do you know Hayato, my twin brother?” I asked. “Well, that was actually I, Ichinose Tokiya the whole time.”

He seemed to be a bit shocked, but I do not think he was convinced that I would help him.

“Kotobuki-san, I am not pitying you. I do not think you are annoying. I am perfectly fine with the way you are. We are bothering you because we want to help you.”

He looked at me in the eyes once more, and then with a faint smile, he said:

“O-okay okay, I'll tell you everything. Thank you, Tokki.”
