It had only been a bit after the guards had left that what she haddone struck Emma. How could she be so stupid?! After hiding it herentire life, the only person who knew who she truly was had been hermother and Nathaniel. Now that her mother was dead it was only Nate.Looking down at the bland bread that she had made. How stupid couldshe be?
She should have listened to Nathaniel. She couldn't do this.
But no, no she wouldn't let herself think like that. There was stillso much that she had to do and she couldn't go about letting herselfwallow in self-pity. She'd have to get with it and force herself tomake the most of it. She wondered if they would tell how fast she hadworked. Maybe she could use the family's greed against them.
Despite the knots in her stomach she forced the rest of the breaddown. She couldn't even taste it and considering how bland it hadbeen that wasn't a bad thing. Of course food was food but it didn'tchange the fact that she'd rather have some kind of flavoring even ifit wasn't that good instead of nothing.
Still it was food.
She had to hope she could think on her feet enough to work thisright. She'd have to kill them all. She shuddered slightly at thethought of how many lives she'd have to take. One was bad enough. Butlike when she decided to kill Wilhelm she had reasons to do it. Thefaces of Beggar's Alley and the haggard looks of the peasants andlower middle class.
She would remain strong. For them. For the ones not yet born whowould be sentenced to that hard life. For the little children thather brother and herself used to be.
She looked up as she heard a humming and held in her gasp as she sawhim. His eyes were like onyx stones. The black of his eyes where itwould be hard to see his pupils, but if you looked close you couldsee the brown mottling almost. His hair was a inky blackness justlike the ink she used to write with. It was pure black, not any colorin it. It offset the white with undercurrent of cream of milk freshfrom the cows utter.
His sharply angled face made him look even more cruel.
"So you are a Maker?" He questioned frowning and shaking hishead, "from how the guards have talked you were also able to do itvery quickly. So my question for you is, why? Why would you want tokill then?" He tsked slightly shaking his head like she was amisguided child and if it wasn't the shock of looking into the faceof the man she had tried to kill. Who she had just woken up with thevery real possibility that she had already snuffed out his life.
Who she was still planning on killing.
"Whatever the people are offering you; we are the ruler of theSeven Kingdoms, we could give you more then they could." He saidand Emma was struck with brilliant thoughts and had to fight to keepher face calm. This would work. It had to work. Because she didn'tknow what she would do if it didn't.
"How do you know that?" She asked calmly and he looked surprisedalmost like he hadn't expected her to speak.
"What could they compare to me?" He asked and she held back asmile but allowed a smirk to tug her lips.
"Would you like that alphabetical or by theme?" She asked and hegrowled slamming his fist against the bars of the cage.
"Do not be insolent! Do not think you are in control. Maker or notyou can not do anything! Do you think that they will come save you?"He asked and I silently prayed to the gods they wouldn't. ThatNathaniel would keep his promise and not chase me, that I woulddisappear and it would not raise too much pain. It was not uncommonoccurrence for someone from Beggar's Alley to disappear. Even thoughit had gotten a little bit better it was still at least a monthlyoccurrence.
If Nathaniel chased after her...he'd die, and they would probablydestroy all of Beggar's Alley. She feared so badly for this but wouldhave to have faith in her older brother. "I know they won't."
"They won't?" Her easy acceptance obviously confused him enoughto stop his anger.
"My life is a small price to pay."
"Small for your failure? Did they threaten you?" He askedthinking maybe she was in danger. What would that happen and shechuckled.
"My failure to kill you is but a step back, the message has beensent."
"Message?"
"You don't remember, do you?" She asked and had to keep fromlaughing outright. If only she could see him struggle to figure outwhat she meant. Let them see what he would make out of that.
"Remember what?" He questioned a light coming into his deep blackeyes as he pounced on something that would show him who she was.
She had thrown down the first part, if it had worked out as shewished she'd see more. If not she would either be killed-which shewould have anyway-or she will have to back up. She had to leave itopen ended so she could make it work well in her favor.
To kill him.
For being considered the Fire sibling, she had ice water in herveins. But let her do so, let her soul be sold, if it would stop whathas happened already from happening again.
She moved back over to where she had been laying on a barely therecot and sat down looking up at him, jade meeting onyx before shelooked back. He tried for a bit longer to get her to talk but musthad been able to sense it and so turned. She worried if maybe she wasunderestimating him, as she had already done before but she wouldworry about that when she was alone.
"Very well, you failure of an assassin. I will play your game."And he was walking out his princely garments swinging gently and Emmadidn't hold back her eye roll. She never made the same mistake twiceand she would succeed the next time she tried.
Well for thefirst time Prince Wilhelm and Emma met. I hope you can get a bit moreof his personality now.
