Alick
I held onto the rope as it was cut from one end, allowing me to swing towards the building everyone was heading to.
I looked down to check on Callum to find him missing.
"Oh no." I looked around wildly, spotting him sailing toward the concrete ground.
I spotted a black bird flying through the air and I heaved a sigh of relief. Puca had come to the rescue.
I returned my eyes ahead to catch my reflection in the mirrored window before I smashed straight through and into one of the office floors of the building. I rolled over some poor office worker's desk, sending papers and a computer to the floor.
When I found my feet the entire room was silent, with me standing in the middle and dozens of human eyes staring at me.
"You're all doing a great job." I clapped for them before making a hasty exit. I jumped into the elevator, standing awkwardly for a few moments before joining the group in the underground car park.
"Do you guys want to die?" Callum was raving like a madman. "I can't believe you asked a hunter whether he had mistletoe? Everyone has mistletoe. I could walk down the street and find some homeless guy and he would give me some for free. Okay, maybe not free-but you get the idea."
"Maybe I should be dead." Isla rubbed her temple, leaning against Puca who had shifted into her car.
"We didn't want any mistletoe." Devon produced a bag of the plant from the inside of his jacket.
"We wanted this." April held up a vast collection of wallets and passports that she was swiped from the hunters. "Now we know exactly which countries are pining for us. America, Canada, Russia." She began sorting through the passports. "United Kingdom, France, Poland, Australia, India, China, Korea and Japan."
"How does that help?" Callum asked.
"Because it tells us where we will be safe and where we need to be on high alert." Isla elaborated. "Speaking of which, let's go pack our things, we leave in an hour."
We all proceeded to clamber into the car. I ended up sandwiched between April and Callum in the backseat.
"I should be in the front." April protested.
"You didn't call shotgun." Devon reasoned while Isla sped forward.
"I don't have to, I'm second in command."
"I thought I was second in command." I turned to her.
April wiggled beside me, trying to find a more comfortable position. She eventually settled for laying her long legs across my lap. "Don't be ridiculous Alick, you'll always be the third wheel."
Devon had the audacity to stifle a laugh and I fought back a growl. The mega wolf didn't like Devon one bit.
"Maybe I should be number one. A unicycle." I pondered.
"Says the guy who never learned how to ride a pike." April jested, a smile on her face.
"Why would you say that?"
"Because it's true."
"Probably not the only thing he can't ride." Devon muttered.
"That's it!" I leaned over into the front seat, bones threatening to realign and fur sprout from my skin. I gave Devon a good look at my teeth filled jaws and my fearsome golden eyes.
"Down boy." April patted my back casually.
"What happened to your wolf?" Callum asked.
I didn't bother to respond as I continued to stare Devon down, the Faerie biting his lip to prevent a grin.
