The forest was deathly quiet despite the breeze that passed through it, rustling leaves in the canopy above. I could sense the wave of darkness edging closer and closer from my vantage point on the roof of Asuka's temple.
I pulled back an arrow on my bowstring, my eyes following the arrow's shaft down to its head. I was a skilled shot and I knew for certain that the first abomination that burst through the tree line would have an arrow through it's chest.
"Maybe they missed their bus." Alick joked.
I couldn't help but snigger, both at his joke and at the sound of April smacking him over the head afterward.
Callum sighed from beside me just as an arrow emerged from the forest, sailing straight toward us. I pushed Callum out of the way and ducked, allowing the arrow to lodge itself in the roof tiling behind us. The arrow itself was carved from Blackwood and was wrapped in thorns and was on fire. The Unseelie had arrived.
Thousands of arrows followed and Callum threw balls of fire over our heads to vaporise them before they could impact us.
I picked up the enchanted stone I had retrieved from the Elven realms and threw it into the air, I shot at arrow at it and channeling my own magic the stone multiplied my arrow a million times, sending it straight into the hearts of the first wave of Unseelie Faeries.
"Since when did you have magic?" April exclaimed.
"No one ever asked." I replied while I launched arrow after arrow, each one multiplying and hitting home.
The knights kept coming and soon my arrows weren't enough to hold them back.
Alick noticed and stood up on the roof, stretching his limbs in preparation.
"Go get em baby." April slapped his arse.
Callum made a gagging noise that wasn't fake. He had serious jealousy issues.
Alick leapt from the roof, grabbing a hold of a huge column that protruded from the middle of the courtyard below and twirling around it until he was standing on the ground.
I rolled my eyes at his theatrics, covering him while he danced around like he was invincible.
April gave him a wolf whistle as he began to fend off the Faerie knights rather skilfully. As the knights massed around him his bones began to realign and his limbs extend, shifting into a wolf three times the height of Asuka's temple. He had grown bigger since his last mega wolf shift.
In response more knights emerged, alongside Vampires in sparkling silver armour.
April perked up in her red leather uniform, decked out with handguns, knives and swords attached to her person. Her eyes were the colour of blood as she leapt from the roof, somersaulting as she did so. Arrows, bullets and gigantic paws flew every which way, black blood forming pools on the ground below.
Callum
"I need to go soon, like really soon." Isla stressed to me. "He's dying."
I didn't fully understand how Isla knew where Riley was or the extremities of his mental and physical state, but her expression conveyed that she truly did.
"I'll level the playing field." I informed, before turning away so I wouldn't harm her. I dug deep down into the earth, digging into my hellish power that had been born in the lakes of fire in the underworld. I let out a cry of both pain and exhilaration as veins fissured all over my skin from lava filling my insides. With a definitive crack my physical body split in two and fire erupted from me, my entire form becoming flames. I torched the forest with god-like ease, vaporising bodies and staining the land in black. I was a great and eternal flame and I was unstoppable.
