Intense heat woke me from my unconsciousness. I peeled my heavy eyes open, lifting my head off the sticky tiled floor to lock eyes with the barrel of a gun. An Asian man clad in a classy black suit and tie held the handgun, he made up two guards that stood on either side of the leader. The leader, who also happened to be the man-who met with Delilah in the club-was also dressed in black, with a vibrant gold tie that stood out against the white and dark colours that the room was lavishly decorated with.
"Good morning." I swallowed the dryness in my throat and flashed a cordial grin.
"Good night." The leader replied with a Japanese accent, his dark eyes flicking behind me.
I turned around to gaze through a large set of windows that overlooked the city of Tokyo. I took the time to note the duck tape that had been used to tie my wrists behind my back.
"So, how much money are you offering for my ransom?" I returned my eyes to him.
"Ransom." He burst out laughing. "Ransom." His guards joined him.
I didn't catch on.
"You are worth nothing." The leader gestured to me with a dagger, a serpent roiling around the golden engraved hilt. The laughter died out as my companions stirred on either side of me.
"Let us go." April demanded outright.
"Vampires are big money in Tokyo." His eyes trailed her figure.
"Oh yeah?" She shook with rage, her nails already trying to saw through the tape binding her.
"Oh yes. Faerie's too." His eyes flicked to her left, where Isla sat between us.
"Why have you taken us?" Isla was calm and collected, her mind calculating.
"Isn't it obvious?" He lifted his hands into the air. "The whole world has been looking for you, the last Shapeshifter." His eyes glinted.
"The hell." I looked over at Alick, who was prodding a white electronic collar that had been fixed around his neck.
"You work with the Ash Queen." April concluded, her eyes narrowing further.
"I work with many people." The leader stood, making a show of flipping and twirling the dagger between his fingers. "Now, here is how this is going to work. I am going to take the Shapeshifter and sell you for big money." He pointed at Isla. "I'm going to sell you to the Ash Queen." He pointed to April. "And I've already got a buyer from Russia lined up for you." He pointed to Alick last.
"What about me and the Hellhound?" I gestured to Callum and I.
"I have no use for you." He answered dismissively.
"I doubt that." I argued.
"I am going to be a very rich man, richer than I am now because of your friends." He turned to his guards. "Shoot them." He ordered.
"I must be worth something." Callum pleaded while I was in the middle of a total freak out.
"Unlikely." April muttered, unperturbed by the guns aiming at her friend's heads.
I jumped at the sound of a gun firing, watching in disbelief as a blur of electricity removed the bullet from the air an inch before it would have collided from my forehead.
"Fire again!" The leader shouted.
It was quite humorous as each bullet disintegrated before impact by electricity. The collars around our necks fried as the electricity caused them to break and drop from our necks.
