"What... But- how?"

Looking on at the sight before me I simply couldn't believe my eyes. All three boys were frozen solid. Frantically I whip my head around in a desperate attempt to find out what caused this unnatural phenomenon. When I couldn't spot anything out of the ordinary I returned my gaze back onto the boys.

It looked as if they were completely unaware of becoming frozen in ice, as if time had come to a halt for them.

Laying my head back down into the dirt, I could only bite my lip in a vain attempt to hold back tears. My body felt black and blue all over, and I was pretty sure I had more than just bruises to worry about. I finally noticed how hoarse and hard it was for me to breathe now. The pain was finally catching up and the overwhelming sudden rush of pain left my body useless and incapable of moving even and inch. It eventually grew to be too much for my body and mind and I could feel as my head rolled limply into the dirt before finally feeling my eyes closing to welcome the darkness that quickly engulfed me.

"Ugh....ow ow owie..."

Flinching my eyes shut I held onto my head as a searing pain washed over my body reminding me of the events that had taken place earlier today. I felt so groggy and painfully tired that I was very tempted to continue my rest right where I was. I would have if it wasn't for the dim orange glow of a setting sun that had caught my eye.

Evening was approaching.

Bolting up into a seated position I couldn't believe the time of day. It was midday just a few moments earlier-- I could have sworn it was! Shaking the thoughts I stumbled to my feet ignoring the pain as best I could. It was right about then when I noticed something was missing. Where were the boys? The frozen boys were gone. And not a trace was left of them ever having been here except for some upturned and destroyed flowers. Shaking my head I knew I couldn't waste time thinking on this. I had to cross before dark! Limping with one arm around my stomach I hurriedly made my way across, towards the dark and dangerous forest separating me from my home.

As I make my way down the trail I hobble and catch myself on a tree every now and then. My breathing hitching and hissing as the unbearable pain would flare up from walking too quickly. Again I push myself off a tree and continue to trudge through the forest, the last rays of light slowly sinking over the far horizon, quietly transforming the deep forest into something more...sinister.

I could tell I was only halfway through the blackened forest. This wasn't looking good. At the rate I was going I'd get out well after nightfall. As the thought began seeping in I heard something chilling.

...A deep howl.

I'd never heard such a bone chilling cry before let alone from within the forest. I began to fret, fear gripped me to the spot betraying my will to run. As I stood paralysed by fear, I caught wind of yet another howl in the distance, only...this one was much closer than the first.

Finally knocking me to my senses, the last howl was what my body needed to snap out of it and begin my desperate sprint for the other side.

I dared not look back.

The pain was coursing stronger than ever through my body and screamed for me to stop, but my fear screamed louder, 'Run'.

That was when I heard it again, a chorus of howls quickly approaching, much much closer than last. They would be on my tail within seconds. I didn't want to think about it, but when the galloping of beasts could be heard behind you, it's kind of difficult to ignore the growing fear.

one drop, two drops. water began to drizzle in the sky until it quickly became a downpour. It helped to blur my vision, and weigh me down by soaking my clothes. The ground below me was quickly becoming nothing but mud and puddles. I couldn't possibly outrun them on a good day, let alone in the sorry state I was in. But despite all that I charged on.
