A long ride to the airport. Sadie and Melissa aboard the plane. It was much more fancy than they expected. Jamie had put a couple hundred dollars in her bank account as a birthday gift. They were able to afford first class. The girls were breathless.
Sadie explored the plane while Melissa continued on her novel. It was a long ride. It was night. Still haven't made it to Britain. Melissa was asleep. Sadie woke her up.
"Melissa?"
"What?"
"You up?"
"I guess. What's wrong?"
"I can't sleep."
"You better get to sleep. We have a big day ahead of us."
"I'm scared."
"Oh what?"
"His reaction when he sees me."
"He'll be happy to see you."
"Yeah. But I hope it doesn't get too awkward."
"Why would it get awkward."
"Jamie and I had a connection. I still have feelings for him. I'm meeting his future wife. I'll be when the royal family. I'm gonna make a fool of myself."
"Stop worrying. You'll be fine."
"Promise?"
"Go to sleep. We can continue this conversation in the morning."
The plane landed. The airport was almost as fancy as the plane. The girls had to figure our where exactly Jamie was. They weren't sure where the castle was located. The girls stopped to try some British foods. They stops at the food court.
"Would you like some biscuits?" Asked the worker.
"Sure." Said Sadie. She was handed a cookie. "Uh, this is a cookie."
"Biscuit."
"Cookie."
"Biscuit."
The argument lasted a couple seconds. Melissa ran to Sadie.
"Americans say cookie. British say biscuit. Americans say elevator. British say lift. You gotta learn the vocabulary."
Sadie smacked her forehead. "I'm gonna embarrass myself."
"No you're not. Think positive."
"There's nothing positive about this situation."
"You're about to meet the royals. You might end up becoming one of them."
"I'm not British. They'll never accept me."
"Sure they will."
The girls traveled in a taxi. People were crowding outside the palace. They assumed this is where Jamie was. Sadie and Melissa made their way in front of the crowd.Jamie was standing by Janet. Giving a speech about his love for his fiancée.
"How do we get in?" Sadie asked.
"I heard they're throwing a party."
"They're not gonna let us in."
"We'll have to look like we belong there."
"How?"
"We gotta look like royalty. We can borrow a dress from the thrift shop."
Sadie laughed.
"It doesn't have to look cheap. These royals love to wear all these diamonds. We can wear a cheap dress with expensive jewelry. Not too expensive. We still need to save money for an apartment."
Janet snatched Jamie phone.
"Who's calling you?"
Jamie took his phone back. "No one."
Sadie sighed. "He declined."
"Of course he's not gonna answer in front of his woman."
"This isn't like him."
"Maybe you don't know the real him."
"He won't answer my calls. What chance do I gave being with a prince? His family probably won't even accept me. He's getting married. Lets just go home."
"All that money we spent on plane tickets? We're not going anywhere."
"We can't stay forever."
"Just enjoy yourself. So what if Jamie doesn't want anything to do with you? Ya don't need him. There are tons of brutish British hunks."
"You know what? I'm gonna sneak into the party. Might hook up with a much more handsome prince. Maybe a kick. I'll probably end up with a guard."
"Jamie has clearly moved on. You should as well. I'm definitely writing a book about this."
In was night. Citizens are attending the royal celebration. Sadie and Melissa approached the guards. They try getting through.
"Excuse us." Said Sadie. "We're friends of the prince."
A famous couple passed by. The guards made a path for them."
"Hold up!" Said Melissa. "You let them in?"
"They're A-list celebrities." Said Sadie.
"I don't give a damn. We may not be famous. But we know the prince."
The guards dragged them out the gates. Jamie happened be outside.
"What's going on?" He looked at Sadie. Looking as if he was about to burst into tears.
"Tell them you know us." Said Melissa.
"This is Sadie and Melissa. I suggest you get your hands off them. They will be treated with respect."
They entered the ballroom. Melissa ran all over the place. Sadie stood by Jamie. Avoiding eye contact.
"I'm happy to see you."
"Are you?"
"I know. I'm sorry. I was afraid to tell you. Shouldn't have abandoned you. Can't believe you showed up."
"I just wanted to see you one last time."
Sadie went to sit dowm.Melissa was chatting with Louis. By the time the party was over, Sadie was too drunk to function. Melissa carried her to the door. Jamie took her hand.
"I'll take her to my room."
"Is your girlfriend okay with that?"
"What do I need her permission for?"
Sadie slept in his bed.Jamie was getting undressed. The queen came in.
"Jamie, may I have a word with you?"
Jamie stepped out.
"Who is this girl?"
"Just a friend."
"Some first impression she made. She's completely sober."
"She just had a long day."
"Where are you gonna sleep?"
"I'll make her scoot over."
"You're not sleeping in the same bed. You know how Janet will feel about that."
"Fine. I'll be on the couch."
"I will not have my prince sleeping on the sofa."
"Well, Melissa is sleeping in the guest bedroom."
"There's more of them? Jamie, you know how I feel about surprised visitors. Who else is coming?"
"That's it."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Good night, mother."
Jamie locked the door. Curled up with Sadie.
