Jemma entered the room that contained the machine that Fitz had been frozen in. After nearly a year of searching she had finally found it, but it was empty. She felt that her heart was just as empty. The one she loved, her husband was gone.
She touched the lid. She wondered if this is how Fitz had felt when she was trapped on another planet and he had spent months searching for her. He never gave up on finding her and she refused to give up on finding him.
She looked through the glass on the front of the machine. She imagined Fitz laying inside. She opened the lid and looked inside. It was a small space. Fitz had laid there for over seventy years to come rescue her.
She tried to be strong around her friends, but she couldn't help but feel that she had lost him all over again. She wanted to cry, but she was afraid to. When she was really in despair, Fitz was the only one who could lift her up and make her smile again. She wanted him to hold her, to feel his arms around her.
She sat down in the machine, then laid down. It made her feel closer to him. She closed the lid and imagined Fitz laying here for seventy years. Tears filled her eyes and poured down her cheeks. She wished that he was here with her.
She thought about all of the things that had happened to them. How he had sacrificed himself to save her when they were trapped on the bottom of the ocean. Then when Fitz finally asked her out to dinner, she had been sucked into another planet. Then Fitz had become the doctor in the framework. When she finally got him back, she was captured and taken to the future. They had finally gotten married and then he died. Now she had searched the galaxy for him, only to reach a dead end.
Maybe Fitz was right. Maybe they really were cursed.
