Chapter 9- Pre-Party Planning

MELISSA'S POV

THE NEXT DAY

My day begins with Harper running in my room at 6:00 in the morning excited about the party later tonight. She refused to lay down in my bed with me and kept jumping on the bed. She pulled me by my hand out of bed because I told her to go bother Uncle Cole.

When I walked out of my room I didn't see Cole anywhere so I thought he just left before I woke up.

I made Harper breakfast while she watched TV. When I was done making it I called her to the table so we eat together.

"Aunt Lissa when is the party starting?" Harper asks me

"Not until tonight sweetie. Are you excited that your mommy is coming home in ten days?" I ask her

"Yes! But Aunt Lissa when can we get ready for the party?" She responds excitedly

"Later Harper but don't you remember that Uncle Cole is gonna have a play date with you today " I say

I've been recently relying on Cole to be my nanny for Harper when I'm supposed to be filling that role.

"Why can't I be with you?" She asks me

"Well because what I'm wearing tonight takes a really long time to get on and it's not fun stuff" I tell her now feeling bad that I can't take her with me.

The truth is that Natalie and Jenn are taking me for a spa day to "catch up".

They plan for us to get facials, massages, and mani-pedis.

Then we are all going to Natalie's place to get our hair and makeup done by their favorite stylist.

Then it should be close to the time for the party.

Jenn's coming to pick me up at 8:00 so I planned on sleeping in for another hour but since now that's off the table, I guess Harper and I are just gonna hang out until Cole gets here.

"Harper did you take your bath yesterday?" I ask her

"Nope" She says as she pushes her plate in the center of the table.

"Let's go take one now so you have more time to play" I tell her and clear both our plates and place them in the sink. Harper runs to the bathroom while I do this.

During Harper's bath she managed to turn the bathroom's floor into a slip-n-slide. By the time that I cleaned up that and got Harper dressed and ready Jenn was waiting for me outside.

I leave Harper with Cole and head downstairs to Jenn.

I get into her car and put my seatbelt on as she drives away.

"How's the bride to be this morning?" She asks me with too big for the morning type of smile.

I just roll my eyes at her and put on my seatbelt.

"Wow someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning" Jenn says and drives off to meet Natalie.

"I'm just really tired. Harper thinks that once she's up everyone else needs to be up. This morning she was up at six a.m. and I didn't fall asleep till late last night." I say to her

"Nerves about tonight?" She asks

"Some part yes. Wouldn't you have them to if you only had a month to plan a wedding?" I ask her

"True" She responds

Jenn and I just have small talk the rest of the drive until we get to the spa.

When we get there, Natalie's waiting for us in her car.

She gets out of her car when she sees us and comes over to give me a hug.

Natalie must like to show off her bump because the dress she's wearing really makes her belly stand out. She's almost at full term and looks as if she's ready to pop at any second.

"How are you?" Natalie asks me as she puts her sunglasses on top of her head

"Tired, but that's not new" I say and notice that there is someone else in the car with her.
I can't tell who it is but can tell that they're on their phone.

I lean back to try and see them better but that's when they open the door and I hear Taylor Swift lyrics from Blank Space blast from the car.

"Cause darling I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream"

The song ends right after since she opened the car door, but just that lyric perfectly relates to her.

Camille Pallor walks over to us as if she's the queen of the world.

"Melissa! It's so nice to see you. What's it been? 3, 4 months?" She asks me as she gives me a quick hug

I know what she said should have been nice but the way she said it was not.

"Actually it's been almost seven months since you and I last saw each other." I respond back

"Oh wow, well I'm so happy you two are back together." She says with a bitchy smile

"Me too, how about we head in?" I say ending the conversation and we all walk to the entrance.

Natalie walks to the counter and then we are all escorted into our own private rooms.

As soon as the door closes and I'm alone I slide down the wall ending up sitting on the floor.

I try to process in what is happening around me.

Today I woke up in a pretty good mood almost excited for tonight.

All of that went away when I saw Camille. She is a true C-U Next Thursday in the fullest. She is fake and only cares about herself.

She almost single handedly made Aidan and I break up before we even got married the first time.
She created many fights between the Knights.

Towards the end of our marriage there was non-stop bickering between Aidan and me. It seemed that our conversations were never happy anymore and I could not stand living that way anymore.
So I fled.

I get up and get changed into the fluffy robe and put on a happy façade then walk out of the room.

To think of it, my life was simple before I met Aidan or even went to work that day. None of this would have never happened if I just stayed home with Harper like she wanted.

"Finally, we were starting to worry about you. What was taking you so long in there?" Natalie asks me seeming truly concerned.

"Oh nothing, I was just thinking about how I'm getting married so soon and about the party tonight" I tell her trying to not act so stressed out.

"Well I'm sure everyone will be so happy to see you again. We all missed seeing you around but not since you and Aidan are through the rough patch of your marriage, we can all be together again." Natalie tells me as if it were the ending to a fairy tale.

Rough Patch? Aidan and I went through a rough patch? Since when did rough patch mean ugly divorce and not talking or seeing each other for a year?

"Well let's get this day started" I said as we all headed back to get this spa day started.

I take a deep breath and brace myself for what this day has to hold.
