Teach Me A Lesson

Chapter Three

I woke up by my phone buzzing beside me. I picked it up and saw Janine's name on the screen. I pressed the answer button and the voice of Janine greeted me with excitement.

"Hi Jess! how are you? How's your first day of work?" she asked in a friendly manner. Janine was my first friend in this city. I met her in Tommies the day I moved in, she was so friendly to me even though she barely know me and I found out that she is living couple blocks away from my house. She is a receptionist in a glamorous hotel called "Jewel Palace"

"Hi Nine!! I'm incredibly fine. It was great. Just a little bit tired but it went good! How about you?" I said full of excitement in my voice.

"That's good to hear. I know you will kick this first day. I'm fine, never been better. Are you free today?"

"Yes. I'm free."

"Great, how about let's grab snacks in Tommies. I'm a bit hungry and bored. My treat." She energetically said on the other line.

"Sure, you know I will never turn down your offer especially when it's free." I said jokingly.

"Yep, I know. So, I'll meet you there in Tommies." She said.

"Okay, see ya!" I said and hung up.

I lazily climbed out from bed and headed to my drawers; searching for a casual outfit to wear. I choose to wear black jeans and a red shirt which is my favorite. I walked to my mirror beside my study table and look at myself. I was disappointed to what I saw, the lady standing in there was like a haggard old woman. I grab my make-up kit and apply some foundation, a little bit of mascara, eyeliner and some lip gloss. I decided to tie my hair to let look clean and presentable. After fixing myself I grab my shoulder bag and phone, put my converse on and walked out the room. I took a look at my phone and it's already 4 pm. I hurriedly go to Tommies, it was not that far from my house, I decided to walk. Tommies is not a fancy restaurant you think. It's a kind of casual place to meet up and hang out usually for group of friends and some college and high school students. When I open the door, the Tommies are already full. I saw group of girls having their chitchats and group of college students peering their eyes on their laptops. I scan the resto and I immediately saw Janine's auburn hair at the corner of the room, her back is facing at me. She wears a floral blouse and jeans. I headed to her while passing group of girls chatting some out of place topic. Once I got to our table, I patted her shoulder and she turned to face me with a bright smile.

"Hey, sorry I'm late." I said and give my apologetically smile to her and I sit down.

"It's okay. I'm only here few seconds since you got here. What do you want to eat?" she said still smiling. I really like this girl the first time I met her. She is kind and sweet and no doubt we hang out immediately to each other.

"The usual." I said smiling, noting that she knows already what I want to eat. We've been here four times since I moved here and I really like this place. It's reminds me of my friends in college. We hang out together, laughing, eating and having some gossips about those wannabe cool kids. Thinking about them makes my heart ache and I already miss them especially King and Rochelle because they are my best friends.

"Copy that!" she said and wave at the waiter. The waiter approaches us with a warm smile and takes our orders. As the waiter headed away, Janine turned to me and looked at me with a playful smile on her lips.

"What?" I asked with a curious look.

"Nothing! So tell me all the details about your first day of work." she said full of enthusiasm in her eyes while leaning her hands down her chin like waiting for a gradma to tell her a story.
