First Person

     Insomnia has always been a persistent problem for me.
Lying awake, unable to keep my eyes shut for longer than than a couple minutes, constantly staring at the ceiling as I willed myself to fall asleep.
I felt bad about being so grumpy and annoying to be around because I was exhausted all the time.
     It also didn't help that the beds in this place were the most uncomfortable things I'd ever slept on, and none of the sheets were very thick, meaning there wasn't much protection against the cold air blowing in from outside.

     I rolled over onto my side to stare out the window.
It was strange to look outside and see absolutely no land.
     I'd never fallen asleep on an airplane before, so it was a new feeling, being in the sky, knowing you're thousands of meters above the ground.
It was like an endless sea of clouds and stars.

     A shiver ran down my spine as a cold breeze blew by. A soft sigh escaped my lips. I just wished I could fall asleep.

     Another half hour of shifting positions, I eventually ended up lying on my stomach and burying my face into my pillow using my arms as a support under the thinly-fluffed cloth.

     I jumped slightly at the soft sound of bed sheets shuffling and a sleepy masculine exhale behind me as the sleeping figure beside me shifted. I still wasn't used to sleeping in the same bed as my boyfriend. I was so used to being alone each night. I moved my head to face the groggy spiky-haired brunet behind me.

     Kai has always been the hotheaded and stubborn one (and in all honesty, I love that about him. He was never afraid to speak his mind), but when he was asleep, his expression was one of peace, like he didn't have a care in the world. It prompted a soft smile to tug at my lips.

    I sat up and hung my legs over the edge, gently swinging them back and forth. The tips of my toes barely reached the cold wood floor below. I rubbed my tired eyes with my knuckles and buried my face into my hands, groaning quietly.

     "[Y/N]..." Kai murmured behind me, his soft voice croaky with sleep, "You're still awake..? Still can't sleep..?"

     I twisted to look at him, sighed, "Uh-huh...."

     "Mmm.." He shifted and laid on his side. "Let's cuddle then.. C'mere.. I was getting kind of lonely anyway.."

     With a tired smile, I complied. He pressed his warm body against mine with his arm wrapped around my stomach, becoming my big spoon.

     "Hm..., your skin is so cold," he muttered aloud, burying his face into my neck. His arm traveled up my chest as he hugged me closer. I smiled in fascination/amusement as his body began to heat up, like a human electric blanket.

     Somehow, in his arms, the bed felt much more comfortable. He had that effect on me.
     Everything he did, as long as it was next to me, made me feel safe and happy. Even feeling his hot breath against my skin was somewhat soothing. A soft exhale of contentedness left my lips.

     After awhile of laying in that comforting position, a wave of sadness washed over me as I feared what it would be like if he ever forgot about me.. and we left moments like these behind.

     "....Kai?" I spoke softly.

     "Mm?"

     "I'm sorry I'm so clingy..."

     After pondering my question for an agonizingly silent moment, he asked, "...What makes you believe I think you're clingy?"

     "I don't know, I just... sometimes I'm..afraid that you'll leave and forget me one day, because.. I'm so.. reliant on you, I guess.."

     He let out a breath. He sounded amused.

     "I'm not going anywhere, babe.." he murmured, hugging me tighter.

     "..Promise?"

     "Promise."

     "Would you two please shut up and go to sleep?!" Cole hissed, poking his head down from the top bunk. "You're keeping me up with her gross loveydovey-ing! It's bad enough that I had to give up the bottom bunk, you don't need to make it worse by ogling each other at three in the morning!"

     Kai chuckled quietly, "Alright, fine, you big baby, we'll stop."

     "Thank god," Cole sighed as he laid back onto his bed.

     "Night, babe.." Kai whispered.

     "Night, hottie."

     I drifted off to sleep with a smile on my face that night.
