✖ Kacie’s POV

Kacie woke up to the impact of a fluffy pillow slamming against her face.

“Wakey wakeyyy!” a cheerful voice, probably Leah’s sang. Ugh. What time was it? Kacie lifted her head with a lot of effort and glanced at the clock. Five thirty a.m.

“Mmm no its too early.” she mumbled and buried her face in her pillow again.

“Breakfast is in an hour and a half, bubblegum.” said Faith, flipping her dark red waves dramatically over her shoulder and checking her reflection in the mirror.

Bubblegum? Wow, her new roommates were weird.

Kacie sighed and raised her head again. She might sprain it if she kept this up. She saw Scarlett, Haley and Stella snoring around her. They were on the floor, all wrapped up in blankets. They had watched Glee till they had fallen asleep. It had been really fun. She wasn’t sad anymore, she was excited. Two days of doing whatever the hell they wanted before clesses started!

“You all zonked out at around three thirty” said Leah. “Anyway, here is your precious laptop with its lovely shows on it.” She said, carefully handing it to Kacie.

“What’s up with the precious? Yours is the same as mine.” said Kacie, looking at the laptop on Leah’s lap and simultaneously rubbing her eyes. Which was totally tiring. Ugh, she was overexerting herself way too much. She didn’t even need to look at a mirror, she knew that she totally looked like a racoon by now.

“Wellll, first of all Skyler burst in and threw it on my bed at the crack of dawn-“

“It was frightening!” Faith interjected.

“As I was saying,” Leah continued, “it isn’t working now and the only DVDs I have are Pretty Little Liars, which is not so precious in a vast, barely occupied countryside which looks very creepy and deserted at night; and second of all, I think I think there’s a sort of rule about laptops so keep your laptop safe. Its extremely precious.”

Kacie choked. “WHAT?? Are they banned or something?? Oh my god I broke a school rule and its not even the first day help I'm going to fail this semester or get expelled and my future will be ruined oh no this school had such a good architecture course nope nope what is this can someone slap me wait what do I do now-”

“CHILL.” Leah interrupted Kacie, staring at the list of rules pinned up on the wall. “The rule says, ‘Personal computers are for school work only, so the Wi-Fi is password protected. If you need to use the internet, please go to our Computer Lab.’ See? So you're not hacking into their Wi-Fi or anything, you're just… watching my favourite show.”

Leah smiled innocently. The seemingly quiet girl loved sure loved shows. Stupid fangirls, taking over everything.

Kacie sighed. For the first time, she noticed the room was faintly lit be the lamps on the tables. The curtains were drawn, and she could see the first ray of light illuminating the edges.

“Fine. Open the curtains.” she said.

Stella walked over and opened them. She stayed there for a second longer than necessary, and Kacie knew exactly why. The boys were opposite them.

The room was filled with soft light. Kacie could see that dawn was breaking, the sky slowly turning lighter. She felt so cozy and warm in her blankets, but the view was calling. And by view, she meant the pretty field in the pale, watery morning light. Duh. What else?

She forced herself to get up (she was totally going to collapse due to overexertion any day now), and instantly felt a blast of cold air hit her from all sides. It was like the icy wind was penetrating her warm bubble; and as Leah opened the window, Kacie shivered violently. A gust of freezing air blew in, and Kacie ran across the room for her blanket, and then wrapped it around her shoulders. Like a cape. She was Superman!
