"Dana!" I shout! Bursting into the building with the two security guards. The pattering of our shoes echo throughout the spacious halls.
"Oh, come on. Stop squirming." It sounds to be Mr. Forte.
We're not far off. We get closer and closer!
Then we burst through the door to find the professor and Dana in the room. We all halt before the orchestra room. Mr. Forte sits calmly in his office, shaking his head in mild annoyance. Dana stands ontop of a chair outside the office, her arms scrunched together as she balances, eyeing the monster crawling upon the floor. One of the officers steps forward, confused. "Is everything alright?"
"That thing is on the floor! Kill it!" Dana shouts, eyeing the eight legged beast on the floor as though it will lunge out at any moment. The security guard shakes his head, placing a hand to his temple. Mr. Forte sighs, apologizing to the officers for the commotion. A stagnant rumble hangs within his voice. He looks over me curiously as the other officer confronts the defenseless insect and crushes it. A thin splotch of red dots the ground.
The first officer turns to me. "Is that the woman you spoke of?" I see Dana glance at me with her curious blue eyes. My heart nearly jumps out of my chest. If I say something now and this doesn't end, then I am going to be in some serious trouble... I nod. "She seems in good hands to me."
"What is this about?" Mr. Forte questions, scowling at the two of us.
My heart pounds furiously in my chest, warning me against the impending interrogation, but I must proceed. The officer answers, "There was a report that someone was planning to murder this girl here, presumably the Bass Case murderer."
Dana's round eyes widen, fear seeping in. "W-why would they want me?"
"Who knows. It was just a report though. No evidence that we have seen ourselves on the subject." Mr. Forte continues to stare at me, his eyes nearly half shut and the glare from his glasses making his eyes shine like beams. I gulp. He knows... The officer turns to the professor. "Mr. Forte, if you don't mind, we would like to question you for a bit, seeing as how you are the orchestra director."
"Yes, of course. Not like I haven't been questioned enough already." He mutters, pushing up his glasses with his middle finger. "But before we do so, I would like to make my own report on another matter."
"And that is?"
"Theft. I left my brief case in my office while I was tending to the rehearsals. I returned and it has vanished. Someone has stollen it." Mr. Forte reports, eyeing me like a hawk.
"I see. I'll make a note of that. Jonny," the officer turns to his partner, "go make a report of this to the station will ya? I can handle this myself." The officer known as Jonny nods and exits the room without a word. I make my way over to Dana as the officer encloses himself within the professors office, cutting off all sound. I bite my cheek, thinking of what I could possibly do. I text Angelica to see if she got home safe.
Nothing.
Dana scratches the back of her red locks. "Thanks," she utters, "for trying to help me back there."
"Yeah, well. We all need to help each other, right? Especially in these times." I reply.
She looks over me with a slight smile creeping onto the edge of her lip. "Yeah, well I guess you would know, Viola." I glare at her from the corner of my eye. Did you really just call me out after this? Then she leans closer to me, and instinctively I back off. "Pft. I'm just asking a question. I'm not that scary." She sighs, whispering, "Do you really think that Mr. Forte committed the murders?"
