"Can you believe our luck?" said Ron miserably, bending down to pick up Scabbers. "Of all the trees we could've hit, we had to get one that hits back."
He glanced over his shoulder at the ancient tree, which was still flailing its branches threateningly.
"Come on," said Harry wearily, "we'd better get up to the school..."
It wasn't at all the triumphant arrival they had pictured. Stiff, cold, and bruised, they seized the ends of their trunks and began dragging them up the grassy slope, toward the great oak front doors.
"I think the feast's already started," said Ron, dropping his trunk at the foot of the front steps and crossing quietly to look through a brightly lit window. "Hey - Harry - come and look - it's the Sorting!"
Harry hurried over and, together, he and Ron peered in at the Great Hall.
Innumerable candles were hovering in midair over four long, crowded tables, making the golden plates and goblets sparkle. Overhead, the bewitched ceiling, which always mirrored the sky outside, sparkled with stars.
Through the forest of pointed black Hogwarts hats, Harry saw a long line of scared-looking first years filing into the Hall. Ginny was among them, easily visible because of her vivid Weasley hair. Meanwhile, Professor McGonagall, a bespectacled witch with her hair in a tight bun, was placing the famous Hogwarts Sorting Hat on a stool before the newcomers.
Every year, this aged old hat, patched, frayed, and dirty, sorted new students into the four Hogwarts houses (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin). Harry well remembered putting it on, exactly one year ago, and waiting, petrified, for its decision as it muttered aloud in his ear. For a few horrible seconds he had feared that the hat was going to put him in Slytherin, the house that had turned out more Dark witches and wizards than any other but he had ended up in Gryffindor, along with Ron, Hermione, and the rest of the Weasleys. Last term, Harry and Ron had helped Gryffindor win the House Championship, beating Slytherin for the first time in seven years.
A very small, mousy-haired boy had been called forward to place the hat on his head. Harry's eyes wandered past him to where Professor Dumbledore, the headmaster, sat watching the Sorting from the staff table, his long silver beard and half-moon glasses shining brightly in the candlelight. Several seats along, Harry saw Gilderoy Lockhart, dressed in robes of aquamarine. And there at the end was Hagrid, huge and hairy, drinking deeply from his goblet.
"Hang on..." Harry muttered to Ron. "There's an empty chair at the staff table...Where's Snape?"
Professor Severus Snape was Harry's least favorite teacher. Harry also happened to be Snape's least favorite student. Cruel, sarcastic, and disliked by everybody except the students from his own house (Slytherin), Snape taught Potions. "Maybe he's ill!" said Ron hopefully. "Maybe he's left," said Harry, "because he missed out on the Defense Against Dark Arts job again!"
"Or he might have been sacked!" said Ron enthusiastically. "I mean, everyone hates him -"

"Boys, why aren't you at the feast?" Asked a soft voice behind them. Harry and Ron spun around to see a man, not that old, around the age of thirty. "I-um, sorry." "Its quite alright. Judging by your hair, looks, and a certain someones glasses, I'd say you're Harry Potter, James' kid, and Arthurs second youngest."

Ron and Harry gulped. "How-" "Dont worry about that. Dumbledore asked me to find you two. Your friend and sister had been worried sick. Now, come in, the sorting had just started." The man snapped his fingers and two house-elf appear, he asks them to bring the trunks to the Gryffindor commonroom, in their new dormroom.

The two boys nod, walking in the Great Hall and taking their seats as the unknown male sat with the professors, where Snape usually sat.

"Ronald, Harry, ive been worried sick! Where have you been?!" Panicked Hermione in a whisper. "We'll tell you later 'Mione." She nods, rolling her eyes and staring at the small firstyears waiting to be sorted.

Soon enough, Ginny came up with 'Weasley, Ginerva' called out. The hat sat on her head for a moment. "GRYFFINDOR!" Ginny smiled, the hat been took off her head as she ran towards the empty seat next to Hermione, who is at the end of the table. Two more names got called before Dumbledore stood up, a twinkle in his eye.

"Congratulations to all of you, i hope you all are happy in your current house. Before we begin the feast, i may need to introduce two new Professors, one for the Defence post, and another taking place of Severus Snape who had resigned. Professor Gilderoy Lockheart, the D.A.D.A professor, and Professor Regulus Black, our new potions master. Now, dig in."

Most elder girls hadn't paid any attention to food, and instead had their eyes on one of the new professors. Some on Lockheart while the majority on Regulus Black.

Regulus is a curly haired ravenette, his hair curling around his sharp and handsome face. Grey eyes is what made some pay attention, that is rare, but most just thought he's cute. Faint freckles littered across his pale face, not deathly pale. Unlike other teachers, he wore a simple green shirt, black jeans and black robes. A locket hung losely around his neck, a snake across it. Obviously, he's a Slytherin, the house made no difference to Hermione, whose face heated up red as she stared at the new professor.

"Hermione, food." She snapped out of it easily, making Ginny giggle. "Oh- zip it you two!" Her face red, Hermione wacked Harrys and Rons arm. "Admiring the new professor already 'Mione?" "Gin!" She complains, grabbing some food and putting it on her plate.

Hermione had taken some mashed potatoes, pumpkin, hot chips and finished off with gravy. Ginny added some chicken on her own plate, the rest the same as Hermiones, just a smaller amount. Ron had helped himself to some chicken wings, ribs, masked potatoes and some more meat, like steak, putting on only a bit of gravy, while Harry decided to take a few ribs, mashed potatoes, pumkin and a few hot chips, also with gravy.

The feast soon ended, most just finsihing off when Dumbledore started his speach, still letting the hungry stdents continue with their feast for a while.

Professor Dumbledore had done his repeated speach, not letting the children in the same corridor as last year, giving them a reason that there are still some traps and a troll in there. Once the food disappeared, all the teenagers and pre teens had gotten up to sing the school song while the professors made sure there are no misbehaving students while it got sung.

The song ended with the Weasley twins doing an opera kind of tune, ending with a funny high note you only see in old movies and tv shows, unlike last year with the funeral one of course. Mischief flickered on Professor Blacks face, making the twins grin.

"Ah, music." Dumbledore sighed, then telling the prefects to escort the FirstYears to their CommonRoom, which is for them and SecondYears only, you get to be in the real one whenever you'd like but only the older years get to sleep there, even if they're actually connected. Each house has one, besides Slytherin, they have almost the whole darn lake.

Once everyone got to their dorms and got dressed, they decided to go to sleep, wondering about what the new professors will be like.
