To say I'm nervous is an understatement. Kiara in my room? That would have just been a dream of mine until today. I sigh in happiness as I steal a glance at her in a green sweater that matches her eyes.
"You have any doubts you want to ask me, Alexa?" I groan inwardly when I realize that we aren't alone.
Thanks to a certain someone, who I am forced to calling my best friend, I have a bunch of people sitting around on my bedroom floor with books of math and chemistry.
"I do have a question," she nods as she points to a sum that she circled with a red pen. "Can you clear it for me?" She hands me her notebook, while Jaime glares at me with venomous eyes.
"Ah, you just have to-"
A sharp knock on my door and my mother peeps in, "I have some iced tea for you kids." She gleams and I squint my eyes to make sure if I'm really seeing some lipstick smeared on her lips with a tint of blush on her face. My mom who always walks around the house in sweat pants and fuzzy bunny slippers is now suddenly in a flowery dress.
I mouth at her to leave but she scrowls at me and when Kiara looks up she switches quickly to a 100 watt smile, "I'm so glad that Devi has friends. This is the first time he's brought some girls over."
Great, she knows that I'm called Devi and that I'm a loser that doesn't talk to girls. "Oh really? That's surprising, he's pretty popular in school," Kiara responds with a smile. I look at her in surprise and she just shrugs with a wink.
"Can you pass me a glass Dev?" Jaime asks and when I hand it to him my hand slips and it spills over Alexa's shirt.
"I'm so sorry!" I blabber grabbing a bunch of tissues for her. It's a huge splotch on her chest.
"It's okay," she smiles and takes the tissues from me.
My mother who was about to step out was a witness to the whole thing and tsks. "I apologize for my klutzy son. Give her a T shirt of yours while I wash her shirt. It'll get sticky if it dries just like that. He'll give it to you in school tomorrow, sweetie." She tells her before leaving the room.
"Well, you can wear mine," Jaime offers trying to unbutton his shirt in haste.
"Whoa, easy there. No one wants to see you strip." Simone groans rolling her eyes and I hand Alexa one of my comic shirts from my closet since it was one of my very few clean tees.
"I'm really hungry, shall we head out and grab some lunch?" I ask while looking at my watch and everyone nods. "You change and come down, okay?" I tell Alexa as we all walk out of the room.
"I think I'd just like a salad. I'll ask Chad to pick me up from there then."
"Well, call him when we leave and are 50 miles away from you okay?" Jaime says with a shudder.
Simone narrows her eyes, "Are you scared of my boyfriend?"
"Scared? Hah! Never in a million years," he scoffs. "Don't tell him I said that." He quickly adds when I jab his ribs. He already chased me with a bat once, I don't want that again.
