Could this be real?

Could this be true?

Yes. It was real, and it was true. The very ground that the brunette leader was walking on, was that of somewhere safe. Somewhere, where the kids once targeted by WCKD would never be hurt or hunted down again.

The very idea of a place called a "safe haven" was silly in Thomas's mind. Because for him, no place was safe. No matter what, WCKD was going to find the kids and try to round them up, torture them, performing medical and unethical experiments in the hopes to find a cure, in which he discovered, he was. And he had to find out the hard way, and in the end; someone he looked up to as a friend, a brother even, died because of his ignorance.

The waves crashed steadily against the shore as Thomas walked out to the big monument placed in front of the ocean. Brown optics scanned up and down the monster-sized rock, examining the names on it.

Mary. George. Winston. Alby. Chuck.

Teresa.

The faces that matched those names came flooding into the male's mind. A shaky breath drew out from him as he could swear that his eyes were watering at that very moment. It was until he came across another familiar name, where more water accumulated in his tear ducts, pouring out like a single raindrop hitting on a window.

...Newt.

Phlegm was pushed back into his throat reading that name over and over again. Flashbacks of Thomas digging a knife into his friend's chest flooded his mind. And then the constant image of the life being sucked out from him tormented his thoughts. Again, the brunette swallowed hard, trying to repress that memory; as he slowly turned his back on the rock, making his way towards the little 'village' that everyone created together.

It was a scene out of an apocalyptic show, like The Walking Dead. Except, there were no zombies and no one was dying. Thomas knew that since no one has for a good year. Yes, it has been that long since they came across the "safe haven" and life was finally starting to look up. No one from WCKD has hunted them down, which was a major plus in the leader's mind. But overall, things were just great. He formed many friendships with everyone; and the friendship between the brunette, Minho, and Gally grew stronger. Yes, the stubborn leader learned to trust Gally again. The bigger man, however, displayed some redeeming qualities, and thus it was hard NOT to trust him.

Walking through the village, eyebrows shifted upwards as lips pursed, all while making his way into a little hut that Thomas and Brenda called home. Pulling back the door, which omitted a creaking sound, one foot was slowly placed in front of the other as he walked in. He closed the door after walking in. He was then greeted with two arms wrapping around his frame, and a head resting on his chest. He bit his bottom lip as they formed a smile while wrapping his arms around her.

"Where did you go?" Brenda asked in a hushed tone.

"I just went for a walk. I would have asked you to come, but you were sleeping." He whispered back to her. Brenda lifted up her head and looked upward; a small smile formed on her lips before...a cry broke out from upstairs, causing the couple to unwrap from their embrace. "I can go up there."

"How about we go up there together?"

"Deal."

With that, both Thomas and Brenda made their way up the stairs, to the source of the crying. As they moved upwards more, the crying grew even louder, until Thomas opened the door. Both of them walked towards the crib, where Thomas's hands entered the crib, carefully picking up the little human, crying out for his mommy and daddy.

"There, there. It's okay, Newton." A whisper omitted from the male's lips. The father bounced the baby in his arms a bit, in an effort to calm him down. To the leader's dismay, it worked. Once the pair found out that they were having a boy, they immediately knew that they needed to name him after Newt, and thus agreed to call him Newton, and possibly Newt for short.

Brenda was off going to get a bottle for the baby, leaving the dad to cradle the infant in his arms and look at him even more. There was a lot of love for this baby boy, and there would be nothing that would stop Thomas from protecting his son since he could not protect his friend from the evilness of the flare.
