2. STRAWBERRY BLONDE BOY

noelle

the next day, amber and i come from the farmer's market in the town over. i wanted to make fresh jam with some strawberries we bought and slowly mush three with a spoon. with the seeds coming out, i thought about the strawberry blond boy from yesterday. he just stared at me like i was someone intriguing.

it's got to be normal to feel a rush of heart beat when your eyes meet with someone's. his eyes were pretty though. a lighter shade of brown like amber's!! his skin was really tan which contrasted with his strawberry blond hair that was more dark brown with under hues of orange. his features were very distinct and interesting. i stared at him back until he couldn't hold my gaze.

"amber, how were those cookies?", i yell a little enough for her to hear and footsteps follow a few secs later.

"pretty good, i left some for you", she says as she pops her head in the entrance of the kitchen.

"hmm maybe later. flirt with one of them so we can get free food more often"

"and you're suppose to be the older sister? just wow, what a great role model. they seem nice okay"

"or desperate to have girl attention. let's mess with them"

"YOU can. i don't have energy for that"

"sure! i mean, what else will i do in this boring neighborhood. i miss my friends"

"noelle, they were nothing but bad influences and you were doing a whole lot of stuff you weren't suppose at such a young age"

"it doesn't matter, it's all about having fun! life is short"

"for someone with such an innocent face, you sure act the opposite. grow up", amber spits out and walks away.

i shrug and pop two slices of bread in the toaster. i can get my fun around here messing with the strawberry blonde boy. i can tell he's interested in me so feelings will be messed with. nothing will come out of it. him and his friend seem like losers.

i'm not generally mean but my sense of humor is impeccable. i get sometimes my words may come off harsh but it's all just jokes really.

the toast soon pops up and i put the slices on a napkin. grabbing a butter knife, i spread the strawberry jam on both of them and take a bite. the warmness of the bread and jam melt in my mouth with the occasional crunch of the small seeds.

i peek through the window in the kitchen and see the dirty blonde boy attempting to do tricks with his skateboard but miserably failing in his empty driveway. i laugh and shake my head. what a joke.

after i ate the toast, i decide to go outside and walk across the street to the sad excuse of a skater boy. for a few moments he doesn't notice i'm behind him, but when he does, his eyes go wide and he falls off.

folding my arms as i watch him groan on the pavement, i sigh and put on hand up to shade my face from the blazing sun.

"what was that?", i finally ask once he finishes struggling to get up.

"hi to you also! what are you talking about?"

"you suck and have the nerve to be practicing in the open. you're terrorizing the neighbors, including me now"

"wow, excuse me?!"

"anyways, where's your little friend?", i question and he raises one eyebrow, baffled at my switch up.
