Sam slammed his hand down on the horn as hard as he could and swerved madly to get out of the way of the approaching vehicle. The commotion woke up Dean and he sat up.
"Oh shit."
Crash. Glass flying. Pain. And then, dark.
When Sam woke up, Dean was still out cold. There was blood on both of their faces and the windshield was completely shattered. He checked for a pulse on Dean's neck and was relieved to find one, albeit a rather faint one. He looked around. The impala was totalled. Oh fuck. Dean's gonna kill me.
Sirens sounded in the distance and a man came over to the car to ask if the boys were alright. Sam gave him the most sarcastic bitch face he could muster.
"You're right. Stupid question. Sorry. I'm so sorry. I honestly don't know what happened. I don't even remember getting into the car. I'm so sorry. I've called the paramedics. They're on their way."
Sam was still too out of it to grasp most of what the man was babbling about, but one thing caught his attention. "Wait. Hold up," he interrupted. "You said you don't remember anything? What's the last thing you do remember?"
"What? I don't know. Some guy came up to me and said they were looking for some other guy with a really weird name."
"Castiel?"
"Yeah that's the one. How did you know that?"
"Doesn't matter. Did he say what his name was?"
"No. But he said he was working for someone named Bartholomew. Why does that even matter?"
Right then the paramedics and police showed up and Sam and Dean were shoved into ambulances as the other man tried to explain to the authorities what had happened.

When they arrived at the hospital Dean still hadn't woken up. After a few hours of tests and questions they decided Sam was well enough to be let go. He'd have to stay the night just to be safe but for the most part he was free to go anywhere in the hospital that he wanted to. He had a broken wrist and a number of bumps and bruises, but he'd dealt with much worse. As soon as he got a chance, he called the bunker. Cas picked up after the first ring.
"Hey, Cas. You okay there?"
"Yes, Sam. I'm fine. I would have called if I weren't. Why?"
"We're gonna be home a little later than we expected."
"Why? What happened?" Cas's heart started to pound in his chest as he imagined a million and one scenarios that might hold them up. And why had Sam called instead of Dean? He and Dean did have a more profound bond, after all.
Sam hesitated to answer.
"Sam? What's going on? Are you okay? Is...is Dean okay?" He couldn't keep the fear and concern out of his voice.
"We had a bit of a car crash. I'm fine. Dean hasn't woken up yet. But he's tough. I'm sure he'll be fine. He always bounces back. Even when he dies, he always ends up okay in the end."
"I'm coming out there. Where are you?"
"Cas, don't. It's too far away and you're human now. Last time you tried to travel like a human you banged a reaper and she almost killed you. Plus angles are looking for you and I think they know where we are. The guy that hit us described what sounded like an angel possession. Just stay at the bunker."
"No. I don't care about the angels. Not when you and Dean are in trouble. And now I know not to go to someone's house if they give you a sandwich. I'm coming. I have to be there for Dean," Cas said with a conviction in his voice that Sam couldn't argue with. "And for you," Cas added, almost as an afterthought.
Sam sighed. "We're at St. Anthony Hospital in Colorado. I know telling you not to come won't do anything, but please, Cas. Be safe. Be careful. You're no good to him if you get kidnapped by angels."
Sam hung up and went to go check on Dean again. There was a nurse in the room.
"How is he?" Sam asked.
"Great, all things considered. He actually woke up for a bit. We would have called you in but we didn't know where you were."
"I was making a phone call. How long was he awake?"
"Not very. Just long enough to ask for his boyfriend."
"I'm sorry. His...his boyfriend, did you say?"
"Yeah, well that's who I assume he was calling. He said, 'Where's Cas? I need Cas. I need to tell him I love him,' and that was all. Don't worry about your brother, Mr. Winchester. I think he'll pull out of this just fine. He's a very lucky man. You two must have angels watching over you."
"Thank you...Mary," Sam said, glancing at her name tag. "I think you're right."
A/N
So I'm sorry I took so long to update this. And I know y'all probably want some more destiel in it (I'll try to include some more in the next chapter don't worry) but I feel like Sam and his friendship with Cas are kinda under appreciated sometimes so I wanted to include some Sammy/Cassie interaction. Let me know if you liked it. Or if you didn't. Either way.
