Nervously I sip on my iced tea, head lowered, eyes looking up at the boy in front of me. He's scrolling through his phone while drinking his baverage with the glass straw I bought him two years ago.
"I like you", straightening my posture I watch the boy I just confessed to choke on his iced americano.
"Come again?", he looks at me with big eyes.
"You heard me, Luis", I didn't want to repeat my words as it was hard enough to say them once.
"But", searching for words Luis looks through the café,"Em, I have a girlfriend-" "I know, but I had to say it", I interupted him,"you are both important to me so I really hope you don't waver now. I've been trying to get over you for so long now, but it's just not working. I'm hoping that through telling you I will be able to move on."
"For how long has this been going on? How did I not notice and why would I waver?", he seems to have completly forgotten about his coffee while I sip on my tea,"I figured it out about 3 years ago and the wavering, that was just this shitty piece of hope speaking. Honestly, I don't know how you didn't catch up to it, I couldn't have made it more obvious. That aside, I know you and your heart. You probably feel sorry for me."
"I do", Luis goes silent for a bit leaning on his chair, running his hands trough his hands in frustration.
"Nothing should change, tho. Don't look at me from a different light, I'm still me. Also, drink the americano. I didn't buy it for you to just let it stand there. Look, it's sad you're not drinking it", I point at the "tear" running down the side of the cup. His eyes looked at me and the corners of his mouth formed a smile I new so well.
"Don't worry and don't regret anything, I'm the one who should. And let me tell you one thing. Make sure to remember what I say because it's important. You're not gonna lose me, I'm not gonna let this tear us apart", I streched out my hand to take his,"I'll figure things out."
"Together", Luis smiles at me and puts a bit of pressure on my hand. I can only scrunch my nose at that and he shakes his head in understandment:"Yeah, no, that sends kinda wrong signals. But if anything, now I'm here to listen, Em." He gives me a reasuring smile and finally takes a sip from his now a little less iced americano.
