"Okay this is crazy, we're in the middle of nowhere, where are we going to go and how do we even know for sure that they aren't who they say they are, maybe this whole thing is a big misunderstanding, maybe you're all just overreacting." Amy tries to sound reasonable.
"Trust me if you saw what we did, you would be running as far as your legs can take you." Justin answers.
"It's not just the documents, there were these huge test tube big enough to fit a shark, at first I thought their top secret was animal testing, but each file had a student's name, and their names were under test subject. Why would a student be called 'test subject'? Don't you get it? They're not just testing space craft here, those huge test tubes are for us, section 3 is human testing, I'm sure of it." Wilkey adds with a hint of fear this time.
A silenced filled with fear lingered for a while, each of us confused and scared, trying to figure out what to do, if this was actually real, or if it was a dream. Some of us break from the circle, talking to ourselves trying to stay calm until someone broke.
"Okay so what now. We run?" Amy asks.
"We have to find a signal, a way to contact someone, Like Tianna's Dad." Justin attempts to make the plan sound as logical and easy as possible. "We should head east."
"Yeah, and I think I saw a small town on our way here." Tianna adds.
"You were awake on the bus?" Wilkey ask.
"I couldn't sleep." She looks like she is hiding something. But we all choose to ignore it.
"Okay well it's gonna be a long walk, I have some water in my bag, but we should get some more." Justin continues.
"Wait." Candice stops everyone from going to get water. "I'll go, you guys wait here."
Tianna looks suspicious of her but seems to brush it off as she walks away.
Suddenly a loud scream came from inside the facility. A teacher? a student? It was defiantly a female voice, Ms Small? Or maybe Miss Foster. What's going on? My heart starts to beat, faster and faster. I look at Wilkey and the others, I can see the fear in their eyes, and I think they can see the fear in mine. Driven by fear my legs move and suddenly I'm running, running as fast as I can, not looking back, I just keep running. Wilkey is calling me but all I can hear is the sound of my heartbeat.
"Wolf!... Wolf... Stop!" Wilkey finally catches up, he grabs me and gives me a hug. "Breath!" He looks into my eyes, and I take a deep breath in then out. "You're ok, calm down." With his help I start to control my breathing.
Once I'm calm, I look around and see everyone. Justin, Amy, Tianna even Samir is here. They all followed me.
"Dam sis." Tianna, trying to catch her breath.
"I... I... I was scared... I don't know... I'm sorry; I didn't know what to do so I just ran." My voice was breaking, and my eyes were getting watery, but I force the tears away as Wilkey gave me another hug.
We hadn't gone too far but we were defiantly out of sight.
"It's okay, just take some time to calm down, then we can go back. We're not supposed to leave on our own." Amy seemed more worried about getting in trouble.
"do you guys hear that?" Samir had climbed up a big bolder and we all climb up to see what he was talking about.
The sight was horrific, students getting shot from every direction, chaos as some of the student try to run away, creating a smoke screen from the mass amount of students running around. Their screams had echoed all the way to our position. I wanted to cry.
"No, Candice! We have to go back, we have to save her, we have to do something." Tianna attempts to run.
"No, if we go down there, what do you think is going to happen to us?" Samir holds her back.
"Candice is down there I can't leave her." Tears starts pouring down her eyes.
"If you go down there, you'll just get caught and there will be nothing you can do for her." I try to reason with her.
"She's right, the best thing we can do right now is to save ourselves and find help." Wilkey backs me up.
"And if we don't? What are they going to do with her?"
I walk away leaving Wilkey and Justin to calm Tianna down. My knees collapse and I fall to the ground. There is no way this is happening; I mean yeah there were signs, but I never thought they would shoot kids. Everyone is in a bad state, but they all came after me, they all have to witness their friends and classmate being shot because I was afraid and ran away. I swallow my emotions at stand up. I walk around thinking of any ways I can fix what is happening, any way we're going to get help and if we can even get help at all. What are they going to do to them?
"You okay?" Sammy breaks my train of thought.
"Yeah." I brush him off and walk back to the group.
"You guys I don't think they are killing the students." Amy calls us. "There's no blood and the other guards are carrying them inside the facility." We all stare, confirming what she was saying.
"They are using tranquilizers?" Wilkey asks.
"I guess, which means they need the kids alive." Justin continues.
"Which means they're not dead." Tianna for the win.
"Justin how long till the sun goes down?" I ask.
"2 or 3 hours approximately."
"OK, if we're going to help them, we need to get help, so I suggest we make moves before they realize that there are some students missing. We also have to find food and water, so we don't die along the way. Make sense?" I explain what we have to do trying to take a little bit of leadership to mask my trembling fear.
"Yeah." "Got it." "Sure." Everyone replies.
