*This was the original version of Hospital Hell. It disappeared so I rewrote and published it but it then reappeared so this is like a first draft.
The city outside never slowed in pace. They lived on, passing the hospital like people weren't sick inside. Like people weren't dying inside this building. This is were I've spent the last three weeks of my life. And if you think cancer is bad, think about this:
It was a Tuesday morning. I had a checkup and then returned to my room where there was a girl sitting on the bed beside mine, I recognized her from school. She's the girl everyone thought was perfect. The nurse looked up from her paperwork when I walked in.
"Sorry, sweetheart, we're low on rooms so you'll be sharing for a few hours." she said apologetically.
"What's wrong?" I asked, curious as to why the girl was here. Melody was her name, I remembered.
"I sprained my arm." Melody said. She had obviously been crying. She asked me, "What's wrong with you?"
"Leukemia." I replied easily, I was accustomed to telling people now. She looked at me shocked. "Didn't anyone notice I haven't been at school?"
"Nicole told everyone you weren't coming to school because you have an eating disorder," she replied sheepishly. I turned to look out the window.
A person rushed into the room to her bedside. I turned to see the boy I had a huge crush freaking out over Melody's arm. I walked to my bed, pulling my IV cart beside, and climbed into bed. Travis looked at me with a confused look on his face.
"I thought you were in a mental hospital for an eating disorder." he said accusingly.
I looked at him, saddened that he would believe that (even if it was previously true). "I have leukemia. I'm here because I have two months to live."
"I'm sorry, Leigh, that sucks. Mel, how do you feel? Good to go?" he said, returning his attention to the perfect girl he obviously has a crush on. I was dying and my crush didn't care. He was too concerned about her sprained arm.
