A long, long time ago, legend spoke of a war between the kingdom of Hyrule and Calamity Ganon, an ancient evil told to be the reincarnation of pure wretchedness itself. Every time Ganon's strength grew enough to attack the land once more, havoc rained all through the many provinces of Hyrule and brought carnage and genocide wherever the Calamity lay. However, every time the beast arose from its slumber, a princess with the power of the goddess Hylia, along with her appointed crew of Champions, defeated the daemon and brought peace back to their home land.
When the kingdom was not in danger of the Calamity's wrath, Hyrule was at peace and an advanced civilization with many different races found throughout the land. The Gorons, creatures of rock and strength; the Zora, aquatic beings of elegance and wisdom; the Rito, masters of the sky and archery; the Gerudo, a desert people composed only of female warriors; the Hylians, beings descended from the Goddess herself; and finally, the Sheikah, a race of guardians to the Royal Family who specialize in creating technology that aided in the defeat of the Calamity. The Sheikah tribe was in charge of creating mechanisms to assist in Ganon's defeat—the Divine Beasts were giant, animal-like creations the Champions controlled in the fight, and Guardians were autonomous mechanical soldiers. Whenever the Calamity hit, the six races worked in tandem to bring peace to the land.
But none were more important than the Princess and her appointed Knight. The Hylian Princess with the heavenly power to seal the Calamity away and the Knight entrusted with the darkness sealing blade which was the only weapon that could defeat the beast. Every time the Calamity hit, it was up to the duo to defeat it and save Hyrule.
A hundred years ago, when the Calamity hit, the world wasn't ready.
A massacre of all the races, Guardians and Divine Beasts turning against their creators, the destruction of the land. The Princess's Champions were all slayed within their own Divine Beast, and the appointed knight fell in battle. Monsters roamed the land and attacked all of the innocent, resulting in a blood bath the princess could not hope to stand against.
It was an utter failure, one that resulted in a darkness sweeping over all of Hyrule. The kingdom fell into despair as their saviors all fell in battle, as they knew there was no way to take back their home land.
All hope was lost....
