Lottie's P.O.V
“Yeah I'll see you tomorrow Gemma, I'll pick you up yeah?” I offer trying to stop the phone call Gemma and I have shared for the last hour so I can actually go into the pool.
“Yeah sure, can we go to the shopping centre after? I need to get some new clothes,”
“Uh huh sure, but I gotta go see you tomorrow!” I finish then hang up on Gemma pressing the red button on my blackberry. Looking into the rear view mirror of my black mini, I take the hair band out of my hair and re do my hair into a messy bun again.
Taking a deep breath in and then letting it out, I open the door of my car and grab my bag which contains a fresh bikini and the card I use to get in. I have like an annual pass, I go any time I want for free, which is great because whenever I have free time I come here to the Plymouth swimming pool.
After I finished the whole dare thing with Gemma we went hour an hour after that, because we got bored and plus Gemma had to meet her mum somewhere. So I went home and hung out with my brother, is it weird that I hang out with my brother? George his name is, and I got to say we are pretty close, I can tell him anything and he can tell me anything, well I tell him everything except my desire to become a diver.
Its weird most people would look at me like I'm some sort of freak keeping this as a secret and making it really secretive. But with my family they have expectations for me, like my mum and dad want me to become a accountant or a lawyer, something that earns big money and its the same for my brother. So telling my parents that I want to be a diver not a lawyer or accountant is out of the question.
Grasping the cold metal handle of the door I pull it open and walk through the door frame into the building. It smells of chlorine straight away, I remember when I was younger I hated the smell, and it would always give me a headache, but now it feels like home. The heat hitting against my bare legs, makes me wants the water even more. I show my annual pass to the man at the desk, Henry, he is always here when I come in at the evenings. We have never spoke but he knows it’s a routine that I come here, we exchange a smile and then I walk over to the changing rooms.
I go into the changing room I always go in, the one at the end, it’s quite big which means its easier to get my clothes of and to change. Pulling on my white and black striped bikini bottoms and then clipping at the back the matching strapless bikini top. I grab my bag and dump my clothes into it and unlock the door, and walk over to my usual locker, 653.
Locking up the locker I tie the bracelet-lock around my left wrist and then walk over to the showers, wetting my whole body I then walk into the swimming pool area. Hardly anyone is here, a man that I always see he is like 50, and then a old women with a son that I presume is her grandson, but the place is deserted, well it is ten at night.
Walk over to the steps of the diving boards, the bumpy textures of the metal steps digs into my feet and stop me from slipping, it feels like when you are walking over a stone beach bare foot and there are sharp bits in the stones.
Not looking anywhere but the steps I make my way all the way to the top where I normally go, then I look up and to the view of the whole swimming pool. The two people in the pool I notice have left and the lifeguard that is always on duty at this time is sat on his phone. Sitting myself down into a sitting position at the end of the board and letting my feet dangle bellow me, I take in a deep breathe and let the warm chlorine smell fill my nose and then I breath out.
I can't see myself diving like I did earlier, I was forced back then I don't want to be forced I want to do it in my own time, when I'm ready. Just because I done it earlier doesn’t means I'm ready, because I'm really not. Whenever I come up here every evening I just sit and think, but when Tom is here I have to sit on the other side of the swimming pool, out of sight and all that.
