At times like this, I'm surprised by the lengths humans go to.
"Listen, I know how this looks, but when I stumbled across an empty camp, what am I supposed to think?" Bethany had quickly decided that the smartest way out of this situation was to avoid making an enemy out of him. If she did, she'd be dead before she would have any time to react.
"All I know is that I woke up in some cave, with no idea where I am, or even what year it is. I bust my way out, and after almost dying, I find a camp that looks abandoned. I didn't know it was being used, and I only came out here to get wood for that fire." As she said this, the man looked her up and down, his expression softening a little. It was almost as if he saw something in her, something that changed his outlook on her entirely. He let out a troubled sigh, nodding.
"Fine, I believe you. I'm Connor. You said you came out of those caves? How'd you get down there in the first place? I mean, I know you don't remember, but there had to be some explanation..." He sat there thoughtfully, finally lowering his bow. It seems he was opening up to her a little.
"I wish I had a clue myself. I'm really sorry for taking your stuff, but I've got an idea to make it up to you. Why don't we work together? Sure, it means more food to hunt, but at the same time, it's twice the number of hands, on top of what will hopefully be nice company. I think it'd be a gain in the long run. Oh, and I promise not to walk off with your stuff again." Beth giggled, happy with her chance to lighten the mood some. Connor's chuckle in response reassured her that the joke had hit it's mark.
"Actually, that's not a bad idea!" Connor began. "Tell you what, mysterious thief girl, why don't we head back to camp, you must be freezing over there." He smiled, motioning to the camp. The two lifted the chest, and together, they made their way back to the camp.
