"Edward, I-" she said, her voice gruff and thick with tears.
"What?" he snapped, though it pained him to see her cry. She flinched, and the tall Quileute behind her growled.
"I never meant to hurt you!" she yelled in defense. "I loved you!"
"Oh, thanks so much for sparing me any pain," he spat. "And apparently not, if you chose to go behind my back, while I stayed true because you were the only one for me. I still love you, and you choose him?"
"She's mine, leech. I imprinted on her. Now, get out," the tan boy said, sneering as he wrapped a hand around the girl's waist.
Edward stayed frozen, rooted to the spot.
"Is that what you want, Bella? Is that what you truly want? I made a promise to stay with you until you send me away. I still can't read your mind; you need to tell me, with complete honesty, what you're thinking."
She hesitated, and for a moment- for a split second- he thought she would tell the mutt to leave. Then, she would run in to his arms, and he could kiss her, and everything would be as it was.
"Yes, Edward, I- I want you to leave," she choked out.
Right then and there, his heart shattered into a million pieces- again.
"Alright, well, I'll just go then," he whispered. "I hope you're happy and that he gives you whatever I couldn't."
A flash of pity went through Jacob as he looked at the broken bronze-haired boy. Good luck to you, he thought to him as the vampire left, and he stood there, holding a sobbing soul mate in his arms.
Yes, I'll leave forever, Edward thought as he ran out of the Police Chief's home, but not before swearing on his very existence that he would never love another being, human or not, as long as he'll live. . .

. . . which will be for all of eternity.
