I got a plastic toy for Christmas
With four rubber strings
Sometimes I'll strum a tune
And pretend I can play
But it's nothing but noise
My family yells for me to stop
I slide it back under my bed
To play another day
Perhaps when they aren't around
I'll whip it out once more
And be a rockstar
Or a country hit
Maybe even a jazz hero
But for now it sits
Scolded when played
Like my many dreams of better days
Which I also hide away
Tucked beneath my bed
Safe and sound
Where only I know they exist
Until I strum again
-Me
