I cautiously open my eyes, the smell of coffee, and syrup takes over the room. A small smile appears on my face knowing my mom is already making breakfast for us.

I am glad to be alive on this beautiful Saturday morning. The birds are chirping the sun is out shining bright like a diamond. And the best part is waking up to the sound of sizzling food along with the soft music playing in the background.

I pull the sheets off of me and stretched my arms up letting out a groan. Somehow, I manage to grab my scrunchie and putting my hair in a messy bun.

My stomach starts rumbling from the variety of smells coming from the kitchen. I'm trying to scurry down the hall trying to pace myself with this cane and careful with my steps.

My mother appeared around the corner with a huge smile on her face. "Hurry, we're waiting for your lazy butt to get down so we can eat." she playfully said.

I rolled my eyes, "Yeah, Yeah, I'm coming mother." I giggled "So, what's for breakfast? Did you make my favorite chicken waffles?" she walks away before answering me.

When I turn the corner, the kitchen is a mess plates are scattered all over the countertop, leftover burnt waffles are on top of the stove, and kitchen utensils along with the sink. My mom turns around looking a bit embarrassed of the mess she has made.

"Someone had a blast down here, huh?" my mother's laughter surrounds my ears.

"Hey, now!" she dusted  herself down, "Never  judge the mess of a master chef." I shake my head while making my way to the table.

"Hello, Genevieve, how's my little peanut this morning? Did you have a good night's sleep, baby?" She looks up and gives me the biggest smile.

My mom approached me with a plate full of chicken waffles, scrambled eggs, and crispy bacon. While on the other hand, she's holding  a hot cup of coffee  "Thank you, mother this looks freaking delicious." I said while my mouth was watering over the amazing food.

Aside from my plate, the table was almost filled up with plates of extra bacon, scrambled eggs, waffles, mixed fruit, and my favorite maple sausage.  Genevieve was trying to pick up her strawberries with her fork,  but it would slip out.

Frustration and annoyance filled her precious little face but she didn't give up until she had it right. She looks up at me and shows me the achievement of finally being able to pick up the strawberry. "Good job! Mommas you got it right." her stunning icy blue eyes lit up when I congratulated her.

"I love you, Genevieve." I reach over to give her a kiss on her rosy cheek.

"So, what are your plans for today Emma?" my mother asked while sipping on her coffee.

"Harvey has something plan for us later he wouldn't tell me what we're doing. He just said to have Genevieve ready by twelve and to dress up "elegant" whatever that means.

"Well, for him to even consider taking a one-year-old toddler out to a fancy place says a lot. He really wants to be a part of your life." My mother states.

Harvey is one of the neonatal nurse practitioners in the hospital where my mom works at. There is no lie when I say he's very handsome who can get any girl of his dreams. With his frosty cold eyes, perfectly combed back silky brown hair and a smile that can get any girl to drop their panties. But unfortunately, he isn't the type of man for me even though he has a stable job and a perfect head on his shoulder. He's the one who has helped me to have a great year of being sober and helping me get through my therapy sessions.

"Mother please don't start we're having a peaceful breakfast and I don't want to ruin it. Harvey is just my friend nothing else and he knows that". My mother lifts her arms up as to surrendering.
