An unexpected turn of events

Chapter three - the adventure.

     It was 11pm - 2 hours past Jess' bedtime. She tiptoed down the stairs and out of the door. Outside, the world was encased in a coat of obsidian. She was glad she'd brought a flashlight. Once she was out of the house, she ran at full speed to Owen's house, arriving in two minutes flat. Breathing heavily, she crept into his attic. All of the boxes - except for the 'mystery' one - were in two piles.
     Inside it was something that even she didn't expect - love letters! Suddenly, she heard Owen coming.
"Who's there?" he asked suspiciously. But he didn't have time to find out, for Jess quickly grabbed the letters and ran away.
