everyone on the patio groaned as thor cannonballed into the pool. especially loki, who had been sitting with his legs in the pool sipping a cocktail. bruce just smiled fondly and continued talking to valkyrie, natasha, and tony at the patio table.

the avengers were gathered at clint's house for a 4th of july party. he recently got an inground pool installed and knew that the team needed a break. so, now they were all relaxing in the summer air, filled with the smell of grilling and chlorine.

peter and shuri had been entertaining clint's kids in the pool, but the kids quickly abandoned them as thor jumped in. the kids always jumped at the opportunity to play with their uncle thor. shuri and peter were only slightly offended.

loki sulked over to the patio table, pushing himself between bruce and valkyrie. he was really too overdramatic-- but they still loved him. he muttered about thor splashing him, but the group just teased him about it. tony said he's like a crabby cat that hates getting wet.

bruce watched as thor played and laughed with clint's kids. he really was in love with that huge, blond puppy. thor's hair had recently started growing long again, and bruce could definitely appreciate how it looked.

steve and bucky had shown up a little late to the party, but no one was upset with them. they were still in their "honeymoon stage". everyone noted how happy they looked. steve's hair was grown out a bit, curling up at the ends and the sunglasses on his head pushed it back more. his beard was still going strong, thor made sure to comment on it every time he saw him. bucky's hair was up in a bun with two pieces hanging down, framing his face. he had slowly started to open up to steve's friends, and now they were all on good terms. it's difficult to dislike steve and bucky, especially on the 4th of july.

natasha commented to bruce that they both were glowing. their fingers stayed interlocked almost the entire time, and they kept sharing little secret smiles and whispers. it made everyone happy to see their two friends looking so carefree.

soon enough, the food was ready and everyone started getting plates. tony hooked his phone up to the speakers and quiet rock music started playing in the background. thor found a spot between loki and bruce and kissed bruce's temple in greeting.

"you know you can't swim for 30 minutes after eating." bruce hummed, giving thor an amused smile.

thor just smiled in return, starting to eat. "maybe i wanted to spend some time with you."

loki rolled his eyes as bruce and thor continued their flirting. they never shut up. he was going to complain to valkyrie, but he saw that she was talking to carol, the two of them laughing too much at the other's jokes and looking into each other's eyes.

'just kiss already...' loki thought to himself, getting up so he could get away from all of the romance.

it was like everywhere he went, everyone was in love! he couldn't even hang out with wanda and vision without feeling like a third wheel. he settled on sitting with shuri and peter, pretending to be annoyed by everything they did. (but secretly being endeared by their stupid jokes and teenage antics.)

as it started getting darker, the air started to cool off. tony got a movie going on a makeshift projector screen that was really just a sheet tied to clint and laura's clothesline. the kids absolutely loved it, as well as some of the adults. who didn't love disney movies?

the rest of the team was still sitting on the patio, swapping stories and laughing. bruce started to lean against thor as they all laughed at a story tony was telling. thor wrapped his strong arm around the smaller man's shoulders, pulling him close. bruce sighed contently, leaving a chaste kiss on his jaw. bruce took in the sight of his boyfriend. how his hair was curly from air drying, how he looked while laughing with a light blush dusted across his cheeks, highlighting the freckles that seemingly only appeared when he stayed out in the sun for too long.

he really was beautiful. bruce felt so unbelievably happy, sitting there with the man he loved and his friends. he leaned his head on thor's shoulder, listening as he began to tell a story from his and loki's childhood. bruce laughed to himself as loki butted in to say, "thor, that is not how that happened, and you know it!"

the night ended with fireworks, and bruce had never felt so relaxed. usually hulk hated fireworks, and reared up in bruce's head at the sounds. but they were both utterly content as thor cupped bruce's cheek and kissed him. bruce smiled into the kiss, pulling away to mutter that he saw fireworks every time he kissed thor. that made thor laugh like it was the funniest thing he had ever heard. bruce smiled and thought, again, that thor was beautiful. especially with the fireworks exploding in the sky behind him.
