I locked my door and turned to my family.
Before the first one could even open their mouth, I was washed with this overwhelming hunger. I pushed past them and into our kitchen in search for snacks."Izzy, what the hell?" Jay said.
I sat in on of our island chairs with my bag of chips.
"Jay, back off." My other brother Scarr said.
"Boys, I got this." My dad cut in.
My brothers bickered their way upstairs as I was left with my dad.
"Izzy, you scared me today. If you didn't come home when you did, I would have called the cops."
"Sorry dad, I lost track of time. Really, I was showing him around and we talked for a bit. He's really interesting."
Dad gave me a "don't-let-me-find-this-boy-hanging-in-your-bed" look.
"Just be careful Izzy."
"Dad. I'm okay. Relax."
"I love you Izabel." He said, kissing my head.
"I love you more Dad. Get some rest."
"You too baby." He called back as he found his way up the stairs.
I finished off the family sized bag of chips and walked up the stairs to the hangout room where I found my brother Jay. I plopped down next to him and sighed.
"Sorry for scaring the shit out of you Jay."
He let out a small laugh and threw his arm around me.
"It's okay. You know I love you little sister, right?"
"Yeah, me too." Said the voice of my other brother as he plopped on the other side of me. I put my arm around Scarr welcoming him into our circle."I miss mom." Jay said.
"I miss her too man." Scarr said.
"Yeah, I miss her more than anyone." I said.
But I thought about her, I thought about how proud she would be if she saw this. All three of us, getting along. Having eachother's backs. Which we do. I hate the best brothers in the world , I wouldn't trade them for anything. Mom would be proud of that. She always thought family was incredibly important. Family.Oh my god
"Alright, I'm tired. I'm gonna go to bed." I said.
"Already? It's friday." Scarr said.
"Yeah. School wiped me out." I said, smiling.
"Alright. Love you little sister." Jay said.
"Love you back. Both of ya." I said back, walking out the room, but not before I heard Jay ask if Scarr wanted to challenge him on the X-Box. I smiled.Closing the door to the hangout room and checking down the hallway. I pulled the ladder to the attic down. Silently climbing up and closing the ladder back, I looked around our dark, dusty attic. Finding a light switch, I scanned over all the boxes, bag and storage bins. Walking around, I asked myself why I was even doing this. I mean, I don't know these people. Suddenly, I believe I'm some kind of warrior, my mothers alive and I shouldn't chalk this up to a bad dream. I mean, I know my mom. She wouldn't just leave us.
I know she wouldn't
But then, something caught my eye. I was a chest, but it had pictures and markings on it. Like how I would expect a devote Christian to have a chest with Jesus and scripture on it so they could hide the bibles. Kneeling to look at it, the latch clicked open before I could even touch it.
"What the hell" I whispered.Pushing open the top, my jaw dropped. Inside was scrolls, necklaces, viles of God knows what and a sword. Picking up the sword, it light up, like a neon blue. It was engraved with markings that lit up with the rest of the sword. It started to heat and I gasped, dropping it. Inside the chest was also a picture, of my mom with 3 people. Two men, a green eyed guy and a blue eyed guy, as well as a pretty woman with shoulder length black hair and brown eyes.
Weirded out to the max I took the sword and threw it back in chest as I pocketed the picture and got the hell out of the attic. Running to my room as fast as I could, I locked my door and slumped against it. Sliding to the floor, unable to catch my breath. My mom had a sword, I had powers and she's probably not dead.
I laughed, once again, borderline hysterical.
Oh my god, why is this happening. I'm 17. I don't need powers, I don't need angel friends. I just want my mom, if she's out there.I started to cry. Like, aggressively sob.
I walked to my bed and cried myself to sleep at all the things my mom was hiding from us, from me.
