RACHEL'S P.O.V.

For the rest of the school week, Chase avoided me. He smiled at me in the hallway but made no move to talk to me or act the way he did last Friday. I knew why but I didn't like it. However, I noticed that he was no longer late to class or with a new girl every second of the day.
When Friday came around, I was pacing around my room, watching the seconds tick by. I couldn't stand the fact that my crush of seven years had the strong potential to get severely injured tonight and I couldn't really do anything about it. I mean, I could, he would just fight against it more than he would fight against his opponent. At least, that's the vibe I got when we were arguing Monday.
I was in a pair of skinny jeans but I had on my oversized black hoodie on. Depending on how Chase and I end up will depend on how I dress. I'm not relying on him. He just promised me that he'll protect me.
My mom knows that I'm going somewhere with Chase and Ryder knows that it isn't a bar so they agreed to let me go.
When the clock finally hit 7:00, I yelled 'bye' through the house and started towards the alley. It was about a 20 minute walk from here.
When I arrived, a match was still in progress. It was a guy named Erik and another named Peter fighting. Erik was winning big time. I didn't even know that much about illegal street fighting but you could clearly tell Erik was going to win.
I stood there, anxiously playing with my hoodie strings.
I started fidgeting even more when I saw Chase limp onto stage. What the hell happened to him?!
Some guys to my left started talking about him with worried glances. It seemed like they were friends.
One of them caught me staring and raised an eyebrow at me, motioning for me to go to them with his hand.
I walked over, dodging some bodies.
"What are you doing here alone?" One of them asked me.
I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "I'm here watching a friend."
"Dude, that's butterfly," one of the guys whispered and I crinkled my nose.
"Oh! You're Rachel?" The first guy asked me.
I nodded my head, gulping down a limp forming in my throat. These guys were Chase's friends.
"I'm Luke," one guy said.
Another guy followed with "I'm Bryan."
And another guy walked over grinning. "I'm Erik."
I smiled at all of them but then soon frowned. "What happened to Chase?"
Luke shrugged. "He was fine when we saw him like 15 minutes ago."
I furrowed my eyebrows and then looked back at the 'ring'. It wasn't really a ring just a spray painted circle but it's what they use.
I look in horror at the guy Chase will be fighting. He's like twice the size of Chase. Has twice the muscle too.
I want to run up there and I literally start towards the front but Erik pulls me back.
"Don't risk it Rachel. One of us will cover him after the first match," he says to me over the yelling.
I hear the a 'ding' and turn back to the ring. I wish I hadn't. Chase was getting beat up badly. Seriously badly. He had blood dripping from his nose and lip and he was clutching his rib cage. I needed him in my life. He can't go. But if I was in his position, I sure as hell would've wanted to die.
But Chase kept fighting. His friends were screaming his name and pumping fists in the air, urging him that he could do it. But I couldn't watch anymore. I turned my head into the closest chest which happened to be Luke.
He whispered in my ear. "He's going to be fine. He's a tough guy. You're licking to have him in your life."

CHASE'S P.O.V.

I couldn't fight like this. My former boss's girlfriend had decided to send her minions to beat me up so I was sure to loose. I'm sure half of my rib cage was snapped in half and was puncturing something in my chest. But I had to keep fighting. For her. That's what I had to keep telling myself. We were only on Round One and I felt like quitting. NO! I had to keep fighting for her. For her. I felt a kick in my stomach and that's when they ended Round One.
I limped towards my corner and took a drink of water, slouching on the chair that I was gripping a little too tightly.
I looked up and saw the guys' pained expression and then I saw her. She was in a nice pair of skinny jeans that hugged her in all the right places but she still had that stupid hoodie on. I mean, I thought it was cute that she always wanted to wear big hoodies but her body underneath was missing so much attention. Especially that set of abs she has. Ugh, she's gorgeous.
She has her head turned into Luke's chest. I did that to her. She can't watch the match. Then I noticed Erik and Bryan besides me.
"Dude! Snap out of it!" Erik yelled at me.
I shook my head and looked at him.
"What the hell happened?!!"
I waved him off and stood up straight but clutched my ribs in pain, locking my jaw.
"Man, let us cover you."
"I can't. I have to win for her," I muttered and slowly walked back towards our ring.
"You can't continue Chase! She needs you! You can't do this to her. You have to let one of us cover," Bryan tells me.
I sigh and push them away. I was going to win for her. For my butterfly.
"Chase!"
No, it couldn't be.
I turned around to see the face that I missed so much. The face I would fight for 'till I die. Alejandro. He was all buff and in shape now. Dang, therapy really helped get his act together.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, holding my weight on one foot and still holding my crumbled rib cage.
"I'm here to cover you. Go take care of yourself," he tells me, pulling off his shirt and holding his hand out for the gloves.
"No! I've been doing this my whole life for you and I'm not stopping now!"
Alejandro smiles at me. "I know little bro. And I'm so thankful for you. But right now, it's my turn to pay back all what I owe you."
I sigh and pull off my gloves, handing them to him.
He pulls them on and looks towards the guys.
I start limping towards the locker room and then I hear the familiar 'ding'. Alejandro really did get his act together. He was beating my opponent's ass.
Bryan and Erik came up under my arms, helping me towards the locker room.
"Wait, wait," I whispered. "Where is . . .where is she?" I sputtered out.
"Luke has her. She isn't walking. She's fine. She'll be here in a minute," Bryan informs me.
I sigh and continue to limp towards the locker room.
When the guys get me there, I cringe as they set me down on the bench.
"Ow, fu-" I mumble under my breath.
"Sorry dude," Erik laughs, grabbing the very organized and complex First Aid kit in the locker room as I run a hand through my hair, looking down at my torso.
"Man, you took a beating."
"You have no idea," I laughed and then cringed. It hurt to laugh. Ouch.
Erik started to clean my cuts and then turned to my bruised abdomen.
"That's just going to have to heal over time but let me see if . . ." He trails off, lightly touching my ribs.
"You mother trucker!" I yelled out, turning away from him.
"Mother trucker?" Erik asked and I growled at him.
"I'm trying not to curse in the worst situation so shut the fuck up!" I yelled at him.
"You already failed," he laughed under his breath, continuing to do whatever the hell was going to 'fix my ribs'.
Then I saw Luke with a limp body clinging to his torso.
I breathed out a sigh of relief and smiled.
"Thanks Luke," I told him as he set her down next to me.
"Hey," I said to her, looking at her tear stained cheeks.
"I hate you," she muttered and I was taken aback.
I looked at the guys for a quick second and back at her.
"W-"
"Don't ever scare me like that again," she said harshly, colliding with my body.
I cringed hard and Erik pulled away so he wasn't in the middle of our embrace.
I wrapped my arm around her tight waist and held her against me. I never planned on letting her go. Ever.
"I'll try. I'll try for you," I whisper in her ear, my lips brushing against her skin.
She pulls away from my shoulder to look me in my eyes. I stare back into her gorgeous emerald irises.
"I'd hate to break this moment but . . ." Luke starts and Alejandro walks into the locker room.
I sit up with Rachel in my lap.
  She looks at my brother.
"Who's that?" She whispers to me.
"Alejandro, this is Rachel; my soon to be girlfriend. Rachel, this is Alejandro; my brother."
"Nice to meet you young lady," Alejandro says, kissing her hand.
She blushes a shade of red and leans into me neck.
I look at all my friends: Bryan, Erik, Luke, and my brother. They were all here to support me. They were here to support me as I supported Rachel. That's honestly the best thing in the world I could ask for.
