If Only You Knew

Chapter 4

What is this sum all about? How am I supposed to solve this problem? Yes it's math and we're writing a test. A surprise test. And I haven't been studying for the past few weeks. "Psst! Jay!" whispers Ian from the other end of the class. I ignore him. I'm not cheating. I feel really guilty whenever I cheat.

" Bro seriously! Why didn't you give me an answer to this?" says Ian angrily. " I don't cheat." I reply. He angrily says " I'm losing five marks thanks to you!" I say " You should have studied!" He says " Yeah whatever." and we quietly walk to our lockers.

" What do you have after chemistry?" asks Ian. I say " Advanced physics." Ian says " That means your staying after school for the science fair." I reply " Yeah. Need to stay back to talk about that robot I made with Lisa, Hans, Jade and Hari." Ian says " I still don't understand why you do these things. How can you love science? It's so hard." I say " I dunno. It's like how you love economics." " That's easier bro." replies Ian. I say " I'll see you tomorrow. Bye." "Bye." replies Ian.

I go to the basket ball court to help Hari and Jade set up the robot. Hari is from India and he's the biggest geek I've known. He has plans to be an engineer. Jade on the other hand loves science but she isn't a geek. She balances her incredible styling sense with school which is surprising. She's two sides of the same coin.

We take a few minutes to set up the robot and towards the end we run short of one part. That shouldn't be happening now. I ask Hari saying " Where is the last part?" He says " I think Hans has it." I say " You think Hans has it? Dude the fair starts in 1/2 an hour." Jade says " I told Hans not to be late but he just won't listen." I say " This can't be happening."

Charity stops in front of our display stand and she says " A girl called Lisa hurriedly told me to give this to Jason Dean for some science fair." I say " Thanks." and she walks away. Why does she always look so bored?
We add the last part to the robot and we plug it to the electric socket. We made a dancing robot. Pretty funny to talk about actually. It dances some of the signature moves on certain songs like the macarena, thriller by Micheal Jackson and a few other songs.

The fair starts in no time and we actually have quiet a huge crowd in front of our stand. We get pretty good reviews and almost everybody enjoys it.

After the fair is done, we take a few pictures and we roam around as they'll be announcing the winners. I get out of the basketball court and I walk around the school hallways.

I meet my parents and my mom smiles saying " Great job honey." I say " Thanks mom." My dad says " I like the idea of having dancing robots." I reply saying " Yeah. They're funny." My mom says " We'll see you at home as you probably want to spend time with your friends." I say " Okay. See ya bye." and I walk away. I guess my parents didn't know my friends aren't here.

I walk around and I find Charity fake smiling at two older people who look like her parents. " So where are your friends? Where's Tiffany?" says the older woman. Charity fake smiles and says " She's in the washroom and she'll take some time to come out." The older woman says " Well we'll wait for her." But Charity quickly says " She won't be done for another hour." The older woman raises her eyebrow and says " Really?" Charity fake smiles and says " Yeah she's actually on her..hmm..period! Yeah she's on her period." I get her situation.

I go over to her and say " Hey Charity!" and I put an arm around her. She wriggles but I hold her tighter. The older woman says " Who's this young gentleman?" and I answer saying " I'm Jason. One of her friends." Her mom says " Oh hello Jason." and she smiles. Charity looks at me and raises an eyebrow with an annoyed expression. I fake smile and say " Well Charity we've got to head back because they want all the participants backstage. Shall we go?" and I drop my arm. She fake smiles and says " Yeah okay. Let's go." Then she looks at her parents and say " I'll be fine. I'll be back after this is done. You can go for now. Bye." and she turns around and we walk away.

After her parents are out of our sight Charity angrily looks at me and punches my face. I angrily say " What was that for?" She says " For putting your arm around me. Don't you ever touch me." and she angrily walks away. What is with that girl? I did that to get her out of that situation. Did she not want to get away from there? I didn't mean to do anything to her. I did that just so her parents don't find out that she's a loner and that she's a poker face, annoying human. Gosh. What's with girls and their attitude?

I walk to the washroom to check on my face. I'm not a weak person and she punched real hard which is surprising. She doesn't look strong when she wears school uniform. Atleast that's what I've seen her wear most of the time.

When I look at my face it doesn't look so bad or noticable. But it hurts. And gosh she's super strong. I wet a paper towel with cold water and I put it on my cheek. I should ask her after the weekend as to why she punched me. I still don't get her.

After the ceremony I message my sister to save some pizza for me since I still haven't had dinner. Then I walk towards my car only to see Charity. Why do I see that expressionless human everywhere I go? I ignore her and I get in my car.

While I'm driving towards the school exit I sigh, roll down my windows and say " Do you need a lift?" Charity looks at me with that poker face and says " How can I be so sure that you won't murder me if I fall asleep?" I sigh and say " Because I'm telling you right now I won't." She says " Alright." and she gets in.

While I'm driving on the main road I say " Where exactly do you live?" She says " Right corner and then left." We drive in silence after that.

I stop by a big house and it's a pretty house. They've got flowers and a small garden on the front porch. She gets out of the car and she says " Umm....thanks for dropping me home." I say " No probs. Bye. Good night." She says " Bye." and she gets inside her house.
